We are running a very special sale price on our 996TT 2.5 X-cellerator "quiet" exhaust with 100 cel cats. It is an extremely well mannered muffled exhaust with an internal X-Pipe which creates a refined, tuned sport sound, improves throttle response and makes great power on it's own. Paired with a tune, it's a fantastic setup. If you have time, you can browse our testimonials web page for countless reviews of this system and many of the reviews are from members of this forum...

Feel free to reach out to me. Ultimate Motorwerks has a tuning special "running"...
HP gains based on fuel octane and exhaust will net you 50 to 65 HP. However it is the LOW END Torque that transforms our cars. You can expect 100 ft lbs gains!

With the 200 cell cats installed smog should be no problem. PM me to discuss in more detail....

In the last year or so. The "visual" inspection is catching/flagging most aftermarket exhaust systems.

I can personally confirm they are cracking down in Cali.

I thought aftermarket systems were fine as long as they had Cali approved catalysts in place?

I don't think there are very many 'California Approved' catalysts out there...other than stock.

That being said beyond visual inspection the latest Smog Test involves connecting to the OBD2 port and running some sort of diagnostics to search for codes and readiness state. Last time I have my Lexus smogged (about 30 days ago) there was no tailpipe test to measure emissions.

In theory, a car with no codes and no sensors turned off should pass the OBD2 port scan. The visual thing can be a problem for those going to a non-friendly smog shop.

Yep, Cali's rough. They got me. It's best if you "know a guy"

Thanks in advance.
Try to find a used Europipe, I've never seen an aftermarket exhaust that can compare in quality, with the single exception of maybe Akrapovic. If you live in a visual inspection state, you'll get the added benefit that it mostly looks like something an OEM would design.

Are you guys saying an after market exhaust with cats. will not pass California smog test? Makes no sense to spend thousands on an exhaust if it's not going to pass smog test.

I hate to split hairs here, but we are saying that most aftermarket exhausts will not pass the "visual" test if the smog guy is a stickler and looking to enforce the letter of the law.

In the spirit of the law, quality afternmarket cats will pass the now defunct tailpipe smog test. But for the most part, the tailpipe sniffer test no longer exists.

For those of us with aftermarket exhaust and tunes, it's not that big of a deal to go back to stock every 2 years to take and pass the CA smog test.

Hello,
Phil from Fabspeed Here
Aftermarket exhausts with cats will pass the sniffer test normally but not the visual test. Like you said said not that hard to switch for the carb cert every two years.

Tune on the turbo will add a tone of hp but not the sound.

agree. it's becoming if ya don't "know a guy" .."technically"? if the aftermarket exhaust doesn't have a "CARB #? you can be flagged. it ain't even about the cats any more.

i have never failed to pass.. but then i've also never failed to "know a guy". if in doubt and in KALI? search for a "star certified" tester that "specializes" in cars with a "high emitter profile". that is "code" ( DUH lol )
