Here’s the male side (mirror is packaged up) and you can see the tab. It’s on the wider side of the harness.

Thanks. I'm going to work on the connector later today.

I'll do that if I can't get it apart this evening.

My mirror is now fully detached.

Thanks for the information and picture.

Is there a correct way to orient the auto dimming wiring plug when inserting it into the female end? Is it designed to reattach only one way?

Will only fit in one direction, should snap easily-don't force it.

The black plastic piece (extension) that attaches to the LED bright/dim plunger, and then protrudes through the round hole on the driver's side of the clam shell covering (the two pieces that go over the rain sensor and wiring) broke when I was reinstalling it. I called two Porsche dealers (Suncoast Porsche (a.k.a. Beaverton Porsche), and Suncoast Porsche) and one Porsche parts place (Pelican Parts) and they had no idea what I was talking about. The parts guy I talked to at Suncoast Porsche just flat out told me that the LED didn't exit. He said that he has been working on Porsches for years and there was no LED light there and that someone must have installed the LED as an aftermarket mod!! I informed him that the orientation light and dimming switch is talked about on page 104 of the owner's manual, and he said "we don't have owner's manuals". So much for dealing with that dealership.

I may just have to select "dim" and put it back together without the black plunger extension, leaving the open hole on the side of the clam shell, but if anyone knows where I can get the part I'd appreciate a point-out.

I checked autoatlanta.com parts diagrams and do not see part separately listed, take a look. Sometimes if you look there may be a part number on piece needed. Also could check with parts wrecker.

Just got my mirror back from radar mirror and it looks great. Install was straightforward. Mine mirror housing has the hole as well for the dimmer plunger.

My mirror came back and the edge on top of the mirror is pretty boogered up. Scott said breaking the mirror open sometimes leaves a bit of damage, but I wasn't expecting it to be this bad. I'm not at all satisfied.

That's the black plunger I need. I can't find one on-line or over the phone.

The mirror exterior was pristine before I sent it in for repair. This is how the driver's side edge looks now. The top of the mirror in this area is also damaged.
