Question First time Turbo owner...

Hi i'm new here ...i'm a soon to be turbo owner, and i would like to know what is the X50 option? is that the performance option that comes on the Turbo with additional power? what else comes with this option? any cosmetic add-ons?

also, is it worth it, or should i just get the regular turbo?

whats the difference between the '03 and '04 Turbo? any extra options?

any additional info would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

The X50 option is simply a waste of cash... save your money and spend it at any of the Porsche tuners... you'll end up with more performance at a lower cost.

I don't think that there are any substantial differences between the 03 and 04 other than the fact that MANY fewer 04s will be produced.

The transmission is different. With the X-50 package your 4 year warrantee will be intact. That is the only thing keeping me from doing engine mods, at this time.

how is the transmission different? and when will the current Turbo end production? when will the next Turbo come out? and last, how much of improvment does the X50 add(any cosmetic changes?)

thanks,

Marwan- as an X50 owner, my perspective is somewhat different. While you can get more power for less, you will take a huge risk on voiding your warranty the moment you do. Also, while some assert the X50 package does not add resale value, others disagree. The resale value of the X50 option may take some time to clarify, but aftermarket mods appear to detract from resalability- logical since you shrink the potential buyer pool. If you are an innate risk-taker, the best deal may be a modded car. Good luck. AS

X50 is a factory supplied factory warrantied mod by Porsche. Aftermarket mods may void your warranty. You can get much more bang for your buck in aftermarket mods, but none of them carry the full Porsche warranty.

The X50 has several improvements, but the chief thing is the use of larger K24 turbos (vs. the standard K16's). and as mentioned before the warranty issue. If you get this "powerkit" you will be fully warratied in case any problems, but you have to decide if that is worth it for you. For the same amount of money you can get 600+ hp from an after market company. In general the stock K16's run out of huff around 525-550 hp. With the K24's you can go to around 600-625 hp, and if you want to go further you have the Garretts. So this might be a consideration if you want to mod in the future. In general because the TT's are running a derivative of the GT1 racing engine I have seen, and heard of many 911 TT's running 600 hp as daily drivers with no problems.

I recently bought my first turbo non x50. A used 2001 with a 100k warranty. When I first bought the car, I really thought I would do some mods. However, I do not want to void the warranty. Also, for the average driver, the turbo has more power than I need. The main difference I have noted in different years is that the 01 has shiny buttons on the interior and no glove box. Mechanics are pretty much the same. I saved about 35% off MSRP by going used (read: I paid well south of 100k) and go a car that I love. My driving will be the first thing I will work to improve upon and will try and get some lessons and track time. To each is own. If you are an experienced driver and are comfortable with high performance cars, you may want to modify your car and add 200 HP. For me, I'm going to take my time and enjoy a beautiful car and if and when the time is right upgrade according to my abilities. Hope this helps. Enjoy!!

yah i think the stock 420HP will be more than enough for me, specially when coming from an E46 M3. I'm no pro driver(i dont track) but im civilized and drive cars in a proper manner

i hear something about Turbo lag, does the Porsche Turno have that?

I have a 2001 turbo stock 415 hp. No turbo lag. The car is plenty fast. The only mod I have done is the us pss9 coil over suspension. Belstein has a life time guarantee on this suspension. The only other mod I might do is the factory porsche short shift kit, at this time. I did the B&M short shift kit on my 2000 carrera. That can also void your transmission warrantee.

I just got a great deal on a '03 TT. The car is plenty fast but I just got it and might need more later. I also just ordered the Bilstein PSS9 and should get them tomorrow. I think either with the TT or X50 that you will be plenty happy.

I disagree. There is lag, but it's done by around 2500 rpm.
