After a weekend of sporty driving in the 996TT, one of the things that strikes me most when I hop into my daily beater Honda Civic every Monday morning is how much better the thicker, smaller diameter steering wheel of the Civic feels vs. the stock "school bus" 996 wheel.

Just wanted to revisit the discussion of what our options are out there, as I know there are folks here running various setups.

Here is my understanding of the common quality options:

1. OEM GT3 or CPZ option wheel

Pros: OEM, thicker than stock
Cons: expensive, still large diameter like OEM

2. DCT T96

Pros: thicker, smaller diameter than stock, OEM-ish appearance (reuses stock airbag), reasonable price
Cons: not quite OEM quality/appearance (?)

3. Carnewal/Raid (used by Ruf, also marketed under other brands?)

Pros: Ruf uses it, price from Carnewal seems pretty reasonable
Cons: not OEM, no Porsche crest, (?)

4. Non-airbag setups (I'd like to retain my airbag as my car is primary a street car, but happy to discuss other options)

Curious to hear anyone's opinions on any of the above, or if there are any other options I don't know about.

I don't have the T96, but do have a DCT steering wheel to replace my cracked wood one. The finish is excellent! However, it took almost 9 weeks to get here from order time. Also, maybe my fault, but it was done on a Boxster steering wheel. The front part is rubber (base I guess) the wheel is leather. Wish I would have know that before ordering. But the prices are very good and Ivan was straight forward with me.

I have the 340mm flat bottom, performs well, really like it
I'm 6'+ so entry / exit is optimized

no Porsche crest ? not a deal breaker as I'd probably put my car back to stock at sale time
I boxed the OEM wheel and stored it

+1 on this wheel, have the same one and it is perfect for the car.
You could also go with a CUP one if no airbag is ok.

FVD is another brand for the Raid, correct?

Didn't realize you pulled the 991 cup wheel out. I knew you had some issues with seeing the gauges. Do you have a pic from in the car with the cup wheel showing how it blocked?

WOW! is that the DCTMS one? I completely agree with OP, wish stock wheel was thicker....

Was planning on getting one from DCTMS or DB Carbon. DB Carbon has a wheel that looks identical to stock, but is able to make it thicker. The DCTMS one looks aftermarket, but i really like the look...

Unfortunately this is all gonna have to wait, as i am getting clutch slippage in third on uphills. So it looks like clutch replacement first.

hard to get the pic of how the gauges were blocked since it depends on seat placement driver height and angle of the steering wheel etc. suffice to say the 991 cup wheel was a 320 mm wheel the nardi wheel a 350mm wheel and stock is i think a 380mm wheel . the nardi wheel still hides the tach but if i lay my seat back a bit i can see the 3000 and 7000 rpm points so im ok with that.
