So as you all have read, I pulled the trigger on a 996 GT3 with 9,000 miles 2 owner car. When the owner did a DME readout on the car, which was done at a Porsche Dealership, it read:
overspeed range 1: 0
overspeed range 2: 0
overspeed range 3: 0
That looks suspicious to me. I can of course cancel the deal, as I still have not mailed the check, but I thought the 996 GT3 is suppose to have range 1 and 2, not 3?

Yup, only 2 ranges to choose from. As stated prior, ask them to text you a pic of the DME on the PIWIS. You will know it's your car as the VIN shows on the screen simultaneously. I had that done when I bought mine. Easy...

I got it all straightened out. It has number of
ignitions range 1 --
ignitions range 2 717 99.9h
operating hours count 251.1 hrs
The first DME i got was from a different car, the dealer made that mistake.

How does it have Range 2 without Range 1? That seems sketchy...
Range 2 is bad, bad, bad
Range 2 is bad, bad, bad

I've read that this "reversal" can happen with certain cars. You are likely right as there are no Type 1's, which would be odd if there are type 2's. Hopefully someone with precise knowledge can chime in. Regardless, even if Type 2, 150 hours have passed since these over revs were reported. I'll bet they are type 1's though.

just wondering if you sorted this out. i am not an expert but never heard of the reversal. as a test you could accelerate to the rev limiter for a second and see if the numbers change and where they change, range 1 or 2.
i know your post is a few months old but you may want to look at the number of program operations performed to the dme. you will need durametric, pst2 or piwiz to see this. if you see 1 or more program operations you know that someone updated the flash and perhaps altered these values. i don't how anyone could do this with durametric or a pst2 but i am not familiar with piwiz.
