Default 6GT3 Gearbox freshening up

I just wanted to give a shout out for Brian Copans in Ohio.

Brian Copans Freshened up my 6 GT3 Gearbox & LSD this winter and what a difference it made. This is a street car!

In the refresh I believe it was 3 synchro's that needed to be replaced along with the pinion bearing which had a large pit in the race along with a couple other bearings. I was impressed with the amount of detail in all our conversations during this process!

First track day was last weekend and it was perfect during 3 hours of running time! The transit commute of 400 Miles to Gingerman in Michigan was also much nicer, with a loud hum now absent, even though the car has solid motor mounts, cup shifter & cables, with a Rennline HD Trans Mount.

Based on my experience I wanted to pass on my positive experience working with Brian and encourage anyone considering reworking their gearbox to contact Brian.

Cheers!

Not in the snow but when it's above 40 on a descent day it comes out. Once they start salting its over till spring rains.

Copans rebuilt my transaxle in 2014. Did a great job and communicates well while doing so.

So did you mount the trans on a pallet and ship it to Copans?

Default Shipping

Actually,

I was headed to Cincinnati for Business so I put it in my trunk, and braced it. I delivered it just after his misfortune.

He reworked it in a timely fashion to his standards and went the extra mile on making a few additional low cost changes to insure I will be good to go for quite a while.

He placed the gearbox onto a small pallet and then encased it in cardboard and banded it well to keep it from moving. It was packed and shipped right! All the small parts were packed separately and included in the packaging. I was able to have him ship it to one of my customers with a dock making shipping a bit cheaper.

If your thinking about it, go for it! He shipped me back all the workout parts as well, hence the picture of the pitted pinion bearing race.

Lots of projects complete this winter!

Cheers, off to Road America this Thursday!

Cool! Thanks. I just spoke to Bruce to get an idea of price and also the shipping options. He mentioned one of those large Coleman coolers as a shipping container... then strap it down to a pallet and Pam gets to work on having it picked up and returned via Fed Ex. Love these two! I'm going to wait a few months to decide, but it may be time to consider this before too long.

Was the before and after night and day in terms of feel? I assume you run an uprated shifter and cup cables anyway, so just asking about the trans feel before n after.

I just had the LSD done with Guards stuff, so that's already in the "rear view"...

Cheers

Default Feel

Brian made some changes to make the feel and engagement much more positive, issues are gone that I was experiencing between low gears especially on the street. On the track, there are no issues and heal toe is seamless. Gear sets were in perfect shape.

By the way, brian does the LSD his way, the result is very nice, consistently predictable! Just tell him how much you track versus street the car.

Solid motor mounts, redline HD trans inserts, cup shifter and cables, all adjusted properly.

Now off to Fall-Line Motorsports to pickup a new cup splitter, since Chicago road construction ripped off the last one!

+1 on Brian and his work.
Here's some pics of how I shipped mine:
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-turb...on-cooler.html

I had the chance to run it for a few laps a couple weeks ago and with the LSD and GT2 main 1/2/3 and virtually everything else new, it feels rock solid and has only gotten smoother with driving almost 2k miles in the last month.

Brian's communication and help was great, I highly recommend him for your needs.
