I see the previous thread beat me to it. Nice example. In a few years we will be wishing we jumped on these at this price. I still think they are undervalued considering worn out longhoods go for 100k. Time will tell but my money says they will be higher in 5 years regardless of the purchase price today.

Appears this is a case of dealer-flip upon dealer flip. Was listed by one dealer for $71,000 fairly recently ( http://www.llautolink.com/web/used/P...no-TX/1557405/ ) and seems to have passed through a couple more dealers on its way to this unprecedented price.
As a general rule, when speculators are setting prices instead of end users, look out! A realistic price for this car is probably mid to upper $70Ks. That being said, good luck to them. If someone comes in with lots of cash and not a lot of market knowledge, they may bite.

they've gone nuts in Europe and also here in Australia recently with pretty much every car coming onto the market selling within days. You guys stateside have the largest market by quite a bit so it was always going to be slower there but only a matter of time IMO

I believed this is the same car I had sent to Brumos Porsche, where the sellers had the car serviced, for PPI and got someting like a 14k repair bill to get it right. The guy who was representing the car sounded like a fast talking sales guy who wouldn't shut up. After I took the car the Brumos for PPI and they saw the results, they started bashing on Brumos and then told me actually the car has been serviced else where for the last few years. I passed on the car as they were telling me the car is perfect and Brumos is full of ****. This was a strange one.

The seemingly better deals always require dealing with these types of characters. Good to know though. Your story will add some color\context to whatever it sells for.

You have been watching carsales as have I! Spoke to someone in the game yesterday who said a lot of them are going to the UK where demand is high and supply is short as Porsche GB didn't think it would be a good seller and very few were ordered at the time they were new. This overall trend is also confirmed by a close friend of mine in the trade. Cars are easy to import to the UK but very hard and expensive to import back to AUS so once they're gone they're gone. This leaves us with ever shortening supply and an aggresive world market. Not to mention the numbers of our cars killed in Targas / converted into race cars etc I wonder how many are left here in reasonable condition? The next 996 GT3 for sale will be very interesting to see as I wonder how they will price it. Personally I'd price it through the roof and see what happens. Be hanging onto mine. Drove it daily all last week (993 in the workshop) and they're a ripping car, albeit I was fairly glad to store it again as I was getting tired!

Agree. I mean I wasn't there to see the car so I had to rely on the dealership. I was pretty irritated when they flat out told me the car is perfect even after finding things like needing new engine mounts, leaking rear main seal and crank seal as well as tires that were from 07 as well as worn rotor. Glad I didn't buy that one cuz I found a 8k mi one a few months later.

I think the 996GT3 will be a solid investment. There were relatively few made, many have been crashed or turned into race cars, and they are being exported to Europe and other countries where the supply was even lower (than the US). Another factor I think is the gradual (maybe not so gradual at this point) phasing out of manual transmissions and high revving NA motors. IMO, that will make cars like the 6GT3 all the more sought after over time -- especially lower mileage, unmolested cars (seems like half of the 6GT3s out there have been modded quite a bit).
