I dont daily drive my car so went with Odyssey 625. People advise to go with the larger 925 but that needs a battery charger anyway so I figured id go the smaller size. I make sure never to leave the car sitting for more than 24 hours without charge, but I think it would still be OK after 2 days (but pushing it). Havent been stranded yet.

weighs 7kg (15.4lbs). How much does the OEM battery weigh? 45lbs?

David A is right. I have a Group 47 battery in my GT3, fits in the stock tray with the stock bracket, in the last hole. Mine is AC Delco, and saved 20lb over the weight of the original battery. You can get one from any auto parts store. Works great, holds a charge just like any other car, can leave it for weeks without a problem, no need to trickle charge. I believe mine weighs about 28lb, and stock was 48lb. Cost me all of $100.

Well, I am starting to see why people are not purchasing a lithium ion battery for their 6GT3's. Yes, the weight is very low and none of the regular batteries come close by percentage. Seems like there are a lot of inexpensive options such as Rennline/Odyssey, Braille, etc at a small percentage of the cost of a Lithium ion. Say $900-$1,000 vs. $250 or less. Also, there could be capability issues with the lithium ion battery.

There are cheaper lithium options. They require a bit more maintenance and upkeep similar to an odyssey 680

I have run Odyssey for track cars and they are good bits of kit.

mine is very much a summer/weekend car so I might look into this to save some weight high up & up front.

This isn't for the GT3, but while swapping out 850CCA batteries, I found that the Deka 734MF battery was 20lbs lighter than a comparable DieHard.

+ 1 for the Rennline/Odyssey 925 and battery mount kit. http://www.rennline.com/Battery-Moun.../products/235/

I did this mod in my 996 C2. It sits 4-5 days without being driven, then cranks right up.

Heads up on a great deal at Pepboys for replacement batteries. Just replaced my 5 1/2 year old battery with an online deal through tomorrow (Sat. 4/18) for 30% off of high quality Bosch Premium battery. Group 47 size shaves 20 lbs off OEM too!

Regular price was $162 and got nearly $50 off with promotion code THIRTYALL.

I have used Odyssey and Braille in many different cars over the years. I stopped, life is too short, they are just such a PITA. I always have them on trickle chargers but they tend to wear out quickly anyway. I would say the lifetime of these batteries is 1 year before they just don't perform as well any more. I went with Bosch and/or INterstate and spend my new free time thinking about my corner speeds and braking. Sorry I don't have anything more in the terms of data, just my experiences. I am sure some will say I don't know how to trickle charge or whatever.

The VoltPhreaks is interesting, especially when you consider it in comparison to say a Braille plus a quality disconnect like the Cartek. You are at about $500 with the later, and in my experience the lifetime is short. Maybe the VoltPhreaks seems more palatable in comparison.

So, collectively, you all have talked me out of spending $2,300 plus tax on the lithium option on the GT3 RS I am trying to configure. Thank you. Now, if I could only decide on headlights.

Backing off from my initial negative nancy position..

The interstate I had died after about two years. Always on a battery tender, but I forgot for a couple weeks while I was on vacation. Guess what? It's dead and won't come back.

So I am going to go this route but use the Deka battery: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-turb...y-install.html

The way I am figuring it is in my experience all batteries have a limited lifetime, somewhere around 1-3 years. The small Odyssey was just one season, the Interstate was 2 years. Based on this info, why not try these small Deka batteries and see?

I bought one for the gt3 and one for the cup. I got them on Amazon for right around $100 each shipped. We will see how they do.

I've had my Braille 21 for over 3 years now and it's been flawless. Zero issues...

interesting feedback.
thanks

I was skimming thru this thread and was going to ask your current thoughts.
I think i I'll try one instead of the Bosch replacement I was just getting ready to buy.

do you drive car every 3 - 4 days at least?
If not, do you use a tender?
