Thinking of a 996 Gt2 - comments please
gang,
Interested in a 996 Gt2, been flirting with the idea of a 997 as well and am wondering if any of you who may have owned/driven both can share thoughts on this… I do prefer analog cars over digital cars but the decision is not clear to me (I have not driven either car) - let's leave price out of it for now since the jump is significant ($50k or so I assume)
Also helpful if you can compare the gt2 to the 996 TT (I do have the TT reference)
thank you in advance
Speef

Hey Speef,
Owning a GT2 and having driven many TT, 6GT2 vs 6TT is very different out of the box, more track focussed is everyway without really taking away any driveability/comfort...a lot firmer suspension but not any harsher(GT2 has much better suspension tuning IMO), a bit more road/drivetrain noise too.
What 997 were you thinking of?
Cheers,
Rob

thank you all…
Main purpose? Good question… I've owned over 30 Porsche and currently own a "few" other Porsches but the GT2 has escaped me so far… I would not rack it… but I prefer rear wheel drive vs awd due to precision, steering feel etc…

The turbo is a very nice car and some people end up spending all kinds of money upgrading parts of it with Gt2 parts. No matter what you do to a turbo, it will always be a turbo and not a Gt2. Buy a Gt2 and no matter what you choose to do with it, you will never never stop grinning when you drive it.

Now I'm starting to be interested in these. I would not track it, and would want one as stock as possible unless the pure stockers are hard to drive, like the GT3's are without some development. Keeping my eyes peeled for a nice, clean example. Cheers!

IMO, all you need is proper seats (ie. 'Euro') and proper alignment to drive it well, good luck on your hunt!

i have a 96 turbo and have been getting it as close ( always my goal/trying ) to get it as close as i can to a gt2 with each and every mod.
pretty soon given i have "enough" ( 575/600rwhp power ) i'll begin ( or continue, i should say ) stripping weight from it.
ya sure can't throttle steer a 996 turbo, but a rwd 996t with an lsd? oh man..
xlnt choice GL in your search!

but yes, it will always be an "approximation" and never a gt2 whether by definition or provenance. but you can change TONS of stuff including the steering geometry, all the major stuff.
stevie wonder wouldn't be able to tell the difference once a fully converted 96 turbo "properly approximated" a 996 gt2. but WE all could lol.
my only point is you can easily get close enough for both shi*s AND giggles.

Since you're not tracking, I would typically recommend the TT. However, a GT2 will always be something a TT can't be. Having said this, a TT can be modified to outperform a GT2 (removing front drive and all), but it'll never be a GT2.
It sounds as if not having owned a GT2 yet is a bit of a "pebble-in-your-shoe." Ask yourself the following, will you be satisfied if you purchase a TT modified to outperform a GT2 or even then will you still be desiring a legit GT2? Funds not a factor, imho I would undoubtedly purchase the GT2.

Your experiences may vary -- but after modding a TT and tracking a lightly modded GT2, I found that I couldn't get 10/10ths out of the TT, much less the GT2.
For a track heavy car, I would actually lean towards a GT3 as I find them much easier to be consistent with. You hot-shoes may pick the GT2 all day though
