Compare price tags too. A CSL costs $250 USD I believe. That's double the cost of the GT3...
I wouldn't be surprised if the CSL was also easier to drive fast, which may have been a reason for those results.
THE TEST:
Both cars... Same tires.. Same dry conditions... Same day.
Hans Stuck driving on the Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit.

The CSL will not be coming Stateside, but the price tag is absurd!

Price is not really the central issue though, they all count as an expensive indulgence and I'm not sure you can ever apply the term 'value' to something that still basically has only four-wheels and transports you from A to B, albeit with a huge grin on your face
Many of the people I know who have bought CSLs also have a couple more similar priced cars in their garage, so I guess it depends on which cars you want in your collection.

are you going to SNetterton on Monday? If so, I'll see you there if the weather holds - but I'm leaving Leeds at 9.00 am, so won't get there 'til about 1pm or so.
See you all there.

That's the slowest time ever recorded for a CSL whereas the times recorded by Sport Auto, Autocar and even Echappment are between 27 and 28 seconds.
I'm sure I could find one erroneous performance for the GT3 that would not be typical. Do you remember the test by Autocar of the series 1 GT3 in 1999 that produced a conistently slower performance than the standard Carrerra 2 of the period? I went and bought the Carrera 2 instead on the basis that it was faster and weighed less. It was only later on that I discovered what an unrepresentative test that was and reversed my decision.

...but of course the M3 times were slower than normal.
I cannot see why this treat was brought back to life here... But, I guess those EVO performance figures do prove the GT3 has superior power to weight ratio.
PS: Autocar ran the GT3 to 150mph in 23.7secs

If you factor in an assumption that the new GT3 has around 10% more power/weight based on power at the rear wheels rather than the flywheel and knowing that it has a cdA of around 0.58 (from memory) rather than the CSLs 0.68 and it's easy to imagine for yourself why the GT3 will be around 3-4 seconds quicker to 150mph. However there doesn't feel much in it when driving it back to back with a series 1 GT3 (less power, slightly heavier) hence the validity of a comparison.

I am probably not reading your post correctly? I thought that the MK 1 GT3 was slightly lighter than the MK 2 GT3?

Let's not forget, the CSL is achiving all this with slicks...
