Cool New Member Introduction!

Hello all!

I have been lurking the forums for about 6 months now and wanted to finally introduce myself

I picked up a silver 2004 GT3 last fall from Porsche of Colorado Springs (think it was 34k miles at the time). I'll say now, that I am an example of how NOT to buy a car. I originally went to the dealer to look at a CPO'ed 997 Turbo and ended up driving out with this GT3. I had test driven turbos before and knew what I was looking for, but after driving the GT3 I was sold. I wanted it...no...I NEEDED it. I was already at the dealership and, being vulnerable, I pulled the trigger. I was in the mind set of, they had already looked the car over and I was getting it from a Porsche dealer. I know all Porsche dealers aren't created equally, but I had read good things about Colorado Springs. Regardless, paperwork went in and I drove her back to Albuquerque, NM the next morning. I never had a PPI done

After I got back, I setup an appointment with Russ Kelso that runs PMCI here in town. A good friend of mine takes his Super Street Modified 996 Turbo to him and said he's the only one to trust with a Porsche in Albuquerque. Anyways, I had Russ and his team look over the car to see how much trouble I got myself into. Other than worn brake rotors, they felt the car was in great condition. They did run a scan of the computer and found some interesting numbers on the over Revs. You should probably be sitting down when you read this next part. I'll just go ahead and give you the scan from last week since it isn't much different.

You sitting yet? This is with a current count of 1090 hours:
R1 = 7062 @ 1088 hr
R2 = 3057 @ 312 hr

Needless to say, my jaw dropped for at least 7 seconds. My only comforting thought is that the last R2 was way back at 312 hours. Russ and I both agree the engine runs really strong. I'm sure all those R2s did some damage, but the engine appears to be holding together for now (fingers crossed). The R1 count is interesting because I haven't hit the rev limiter in at least a month (over 500 miles), yet it shows an R1 within the last two operating hours.

I did a SWMS driving event the end of last year and....wow. I read a lot about the GT3 coming a live on the track and this statement is 100% true. Street driving is fun, but the addiction is at the race track for this car. I'll be honest, for me it is an incredibly fun yet terrifying experience. I've done a few autocrosses and DEs the last few years in FF, FR, and AWD configurations, but RR has me looking fear head-on...and I love it.

I switched out the previously installed Pirelli Rossos for NT01s (245/40/18 in front, 315/30/18 rear). The alignment felt a little off so I had PMCI do an alignment and corner balance. Turns out the car had 0.11 total toe-out up front and the whole right side of the car was about 3/8" higher than the left (everything else was close to factory specs). The new settings are below with driver (150 lbs):

set to stock ride height

FRONT
Camber (degrees): -1.77 (L) -1.80 (R)
Caster (degrees): 7.34 (L) 7.30 (R)
Toe (degrees): 0.00 (L) 0.00 (R)
Weight (lbs): 642 (L) 640 (R)

REAR
Camber (degrees): -1.99 (L) -2.0 (R)
Toe (degrees): 0.06 (L) 0.06 (R)
Weight (lbs): 1058 (L) 1029 (R)

Total weight w/ driver: 3369 lbs

Next track event is a month away, but on the local mountain twisties she is feeling much more predictable. Going with more understeer for now and work in the oversteer in time.

Anyways, I'll stop rambling. If anyone is actually still reading, congrats you've finally reached the end

Thank you all for the warm welcome! I just finished polishing my headlights last weekend (they were clouding up good) so will post up new pictures in the next couple days.

I just received a box loaded with OEM maintenance parts (plugs, filters, etc.). I've got several of the DIYs bookmarked so this weekend I will be going through those and maybe tweak them if necessary for future reference.

Great car and welcome to the slippery slope. Of course as said already we need photos of new cars just to help you enjoy your new baby.

Photos please! Congrats on a great purchase. These cars are tanks (minus the coolant hose issues - so weld them!) and feel free to flog it all over the track. Welcome to an exclusive club.

Welcome to the clan! No worries with the over revs, these motors are pretty tough.
