Tor - The AD08's (which I also run, as you know) are a great street + track tire, the best all around tire that I've tried so far. If I were only going to have one set of tires to cover both uses, the AD08's would be the ones for sure. But some of the things that make them so good on the track - very stiff sidewalls, a compound that gets soft and sticky when hot, and construction methods that make them a bit more expensive than pure street alternatives - make them less ideal as a street-only tire.

For anyone who will have two sets of wheels and tires - one set just for street and a 2nd set for track - the AD08 is a good choice to put on the track wheels, unless they are looking for serious race car grip levels. It's great that you can drive them to and from the track, even over long distances. But if I had a car that was mostly driven on the street, and I had a dedicated set of wheels just for the street, I still think a less expensive, more compliant tire such as the Hankook Ventus is a better choice to go on the street-only wheels.

I haven't tried the BFG Rivals, but there are some folks at my local track who use them on other cars and like them a lot.

Thanks Felix:
I do have two sets of rims and tires. On the stock rim I have V12's but my round town driving is limited to 30-40 miles every two weeks just to keep things lubricated.
On the track set (rims) I have the AD08 but I do drive on them to and from the track as I dont have a trailer (yet).

Back to my question, would the Rival 315 fit in the rear?
Answered my own question here. Although its under race tire, not sure why with 200 wear rating and los of thread.
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-gt2-...tire-ques.html

Will the Rival provide better grip vs. the 295-AD08?

Surprisingly I've managed to get an exceptional quote locally on Yokohama AD08R's, as I have the predecessor AD08's on it now! I think I will just go that route, a lot of your guys comments in this thread have pointed to them anyways...

Hate to bump an old thread but I emailed Michelin and they said they have no plans to make a 295/30/18 in the MPSS

I don't get it...I had them on my E46M3 and they are great street tires.

true, but have been using the NT05s 295/35/18 for 5 years now with no problems. NT01s 315/30/18 for track.

I've had them on my Boxster before and, though they can't compete with the MPSS, they were OK, plus can't beat the price ($650 shipped from TR).
Just an update... Love the Sumis on back-roads. Best bang/$ GT3 street tire.

I'm running to the track tomorrow for a day at Chuckwalla and am running my street tires (AD08R's) I'm doing a fair amount of street driving over the weekend in Palm Springs so am leaving the NT 01's at home.

Does anyone have good tire pressures I should be maintaining "hot" on track by chance for these tires? I'm finding 32/33 for the street but not sure If they should be lower for the track. Any input welcome.

TIA

Do you recall the tire pressures by chance, on track? Thanks

Oh, did you mean you ran them on track at 32/33 hot?

I ran mine around 35F/37R (hot) on track. Much less than that and I would punish the outer edges. Some of this will depend on your car's alignment and driver reference.
