I've used the Rothsport on my SP996 and SPB race cars. Excellent product. Removal of the steering wheel makes entry/exit in the car with a full cage much easier, even with a seat on sliders. Really don't see the need on a street/tracked GT3 if you have slider seat. Although, the stock wheel and airbag are heavy compared to a removable race wheel... love the looks of the race wheel too...

I like the feel of the cup wheel and is using my 6.3 the same way as OP! No quick release! As you can see I only have rear cage so entry/exit is easy! Sorry for the Mooty way of posting pictures.

No need for street car. Never removed to exit in my caged GT3. Wheel helps exiting the car but probably depends on cage build. When needing to perform some maintenance removing gives more space. To me it is only for looks.

What parts are required to make the cup wheel fit? Is it simply a matter of unbolting the existing wheel and bolting on the cup wheel? Also is there a way to not have the airbag light come on?

You need a steering wheel and a hub adapter. Disabling the airbag light is as simple as inserting a resistor into the airbag wiring socket.

Or you can get everything you need as a kit from Carnewal: http://www.carnewal.com/products/P96...Steering-Wheel

I got mine from Gert at Carneval. Great to work with. My airbag light comes on but it's no big deal!

The 996 Cup steering wheel looks good and is "period correct".. Carnewal also has the 997 Cup wheel made by OMP. The 997 version is 320mm diameter vs. 350. Thoughts on that?!

Yup! Gert rocks!!! I prefer the 350MM. I think the smaller wheel looks too modern for my taste and eye. I used the Cup wheel at 350 MM in my 964 and thought it fit perfectly, period correct and uber cool. I have the same wheel except this time from Motorsport and can't wait to plug it into the 6-3. Next DIY on my list. Enjoy! The pic above really gives you the idea of just how right it looks!

I agree the 996 cup wheel is a better fit for the older style interior. I wonder how it compares to the size of the factory airbag wheel, will have to get the measuring tape out.

The quick release or the steering wheel?

Steering wheel looks to be pretty straight forward. Remove the airbag (2 screws), and one nut to take out the wheel.

And the quick release (or whatever hub comes with the new wheel)?

Just as easy: The one nut that held the steering wheel in place now holds the hub/adapter in place. Then 6 bolts and nuts to hold racing wheel onto the adapter or QR to the adapter.

Just be aware that there are two different bolt patterns; QR and wheel must all match, or get an adapter with 12 holes, which can fit either pattern.

One pattern has bolts/holes at 12 and 6 o'clock, the other is at 1 and 7 o'clock.

Thanks! Sounds simple enough...now if only Carnewal had the wheels in stock!
