Default Replace Front Windshield

What are my options to replace the front glass on the 6GT3? Do I ask for OEM part if I don't go to the dealer. How much money? I don't think I have the coverage for my insurance. Lastly, should I be looking for something to make sure they did it properly?

Unfortunately, I've had my share of windshield replacements. I've always used OEM...I don't think there are many options. I've had a local windshield company do it...They have much more experience than the local P-dealer. On my 993, I insisted on the dealership, because they were more complicated. The newer ones are pretty straight forward. They only area requiring extra attention is the antenna.

I've not had the windshield done on my P-car, but, unfortunately, have had it done on three others (Audi S8, Ford Escape, and MB ML55). Always used an independent shop, Safelite franchisee, with very good results.

If you need the radio, then factory and it's about $1K installed. If you don't go with the cup windshield and IIRC about $600.

The cup windshield I put in was about $430 for the windshield and $150 for install.

Rodney. Had my windshield replaced no deductible. Should be under comprehensive. I just told them that it's hard to see at night due to the many little dings from rocks on the road ( and track). Did it on my 997 s yrs ago too. No questions asked. As long as you have auto insurance should be covered. Unless you don't if it is a 100% track car.

I did it during some warranty work replacing one of the cats. The glass shop took care of it while it was there. GL

BTW, where can one source a cup windshield? The dealers have nothing to do with cup parts.

My dealer does cup parts. They just need a PMNA account.

Ouch $1,000! Cup window might be the way to go since I don't really drive the car on the street. I will check with my insurance company. I recently switched companies so I am a little gun-shy to already put in a claim especailly if will cost me more in the longer term.
I have around 4 more track days and will probably wait until next spring as long as the crack does not get bigger.
Thanks for all the comments! Rodney

Safelite. Ask for OEM. I recall there being a gray or green tint question for the top sunshaded portion.

When I got there they had the windshield with the original Porsche wrapping still on it to prove where it came from.

Free on my insurance. Some states have it, others don't.

I used Safelite this year too. My insurance covers it with no deductible. But I did look at the bill and it was $9xx or so. (Using OEM Porsche glass)

most insurance companies have "glass coverage" when you break any glass the deducablr is only $100.00 ... well worth the $12.00 a year aded onto your insurance.
