Default 04gt3 brake calipers

Has anyone had experience with the gt3 calipers heatsinks that are attached to the caliper pistons deteriorating and or braking? If so what is the remedy short of replacing the calipers?

What heatsinks are you referring to? Do you have a pic?

Are you refering to the ceramic pucks that are a heat Shield so as to NOT transfer heat to the caliper? That is the opposite of a heat sink.

Are your seals deteriorating, or are the ceramic pucks?

Thanks mooty, I got that feed back from one shop that I deal with but another shop was very opposed to that saying without the ceramic pucks the outer seals could not be installed. It is my understanding that earier models did not have these puck to begin with but I don't know that for a fact. Will you be at Fontana next week?

Chuck, the seals were in bad shape as well as the pucks being deteriorated.

I would think the seals and pucks could be ordered new and installed; no need to thrown out the calipers all together. If so, PM me.

We tried to order new pucks with no luck and then new pistons with pucks and no luck either way.

Seals are available from the Porsche dealer, about same cost as elsewhere. The ceramic pucks are available from TRG. Just be sure what size you need. The pucks serve as the outside mounting point for the seals, so...no puck, no seal.

oh. seals. i have no seals. they are all gone. i dont have prob stopping those i find them unnecessary.

dealers told me different things.
some will not sell you seat and/or ceramic pucks. but IIRC PMNA has it. find a good indie that works on cup cars. they should know those parts. dealers freak out when the see you actually driving the car pass 5mph and fried your seals.

The little rubber seals hold on to the ceramic pucks when you change brake pads. When you go to change pads and the rubber seals are cooked and dried out then it is tme to replace them. Of all the maintenance on a track GT3, this is one inexpensive thing to replace. Trying to swap in fresh brake pads can go from easy to a pain in the *** when the little pucks keep falling out every time you go to slide in the new pads. The seal is not absolutely necessary but the ceramic is an importaint part of your brakes.

Thanks too all for the info it is back together for next weekend and then I will sort out whitch way to go puck or no pucks. I think if I can find the pucks through TRG seems like the better way since they are subject to some extreem temps under track conditions. I may get some more insight at Fontana next weekend always plenty of cup cars there and possibly PCNA support.
