Default So what do we do about rear rotors?

We've already figured out that 2005 Cayenne S 350mm rotors will work on the front. Which gives us a zillion cheap options for slotted or solid rotors under $200.

Has anyone found a comparable rear rotor that will fit yet? The factory crossed drilled are cracking so fast.... Waste of money.

There has to be something that fits.

Nope. The 996's and the 997's share the same brakes. Most of the 997 guys have .2's so we don't have a lot in common with regards to stopping parts. There is where I come to get advice from the track rats when I'm looking for cheap brake parts

I thought the 997.1 got larger rear rotors. A bump from 330 mm to 350 mm (same as the front). Am I wrong? Might work if you shim out the caliper. Anybody done this?

Cheers

I think our front and rears are identical.

Never thought of replacing rears because in our 6's they last quite sometime. Mike

Yes, I agree on the 997.1_3. Both are 350 mm from what I know. The 6_3 rear rotor (cast) is 330 mm.

Cheers

6GT3 rear ceramics are 350mm and the steels, running Cup rotors in rear, last a long time on 6GT3. I wonder if the increased brake bias on the 7.1 cooks them out faster.

Just checked Pelican Parts and the have 997TT rear rotors for $184 each. If I recall correctly these should work on the rear.

7_3s wear rear brakes much faster. I think it's all the driver nannies kicking in an wearing them down.

I can run a set of rear rotors (and pads) 2-3-4 X longer than fronts. They barely show wear. I'm hoping my giant wing will assist with the rear brake bias. bwahahahaah.

Actually you are correct. Same with Boxster S's with the nannies.

Also look at Racingbrake.com

Deputydog - this is not completely correct "Nope. The 996's and the 997's share the same brakes."

996 mk2 and 997 gt3 front calipers are almost identical, and use the same pad
996 and 997 gt3 rear calipers are different and use different pads
996mk1 and 996mk2 rear calipers are the same (fronts are different)

Here is how it is from memory:

996Gt3Mk1 - 330 mm front and 330 mm rear
996Gt#Mk2 with PCCB 350mm front and 350mm rear
996GT3Mk2 with Steel - 350mm front and 330mm rear

997 GT3 steel and PCCB have 350mmm rears that are interchangeable with 996 PCCB rears, and can be used on 996 steel disc cars if you space out the rear caliper 10mm - vividracing sell the spacers for the rear to move the calipers out 10mm - you will need longer bolts for the caliper.

997 GT3 PCCB cars can use the 997 GT3mk2 380mm front steel disc if you use different pads with a narrow annulus (but the front calipers are the same to all intents and purposes)

997 turbo rear discs, 997 GT3 rear discs and 997 GT3 cup rear discs are the same.

997 turbo and 996 GT3 front calipers are the same (although different part numbers) - they may have some cosmetic differences.

997 turbo and 997GT3 steel cars rear calipers are the same.

You can use a 997 turbo front disc on a 996 GT3 if you space the disc out 1.7mm or so - you cannot use the 996 GT3 disc on a 997 turbo. (why you would want to do either of these is not clear to me)

Hope that clarifies things a bit.

So all that means 7.1 can use 997 cup and 997 Turbo rear discs as well as the OEM rears.

PCCB equipped 6.2 can also run the above rears in place of PCCB discs.
