I sold a guy a homebuilt airplane and trailer on Ebay. Had pictures of him with it and driving away. He drove it from New Mexico to Maryland and told them he wanted his Paypal money back because he never go a receipt to register it. I sent Paypal a photocopy of the receipt he had signed and a picture of him signing it in my office! They held his money and blocked my accounts for 2 months. Until I threatened Federal Felony charges against him and them for accessory. Then they quickly found the time to give me the money and a week later he had the airplane for sale on Ebay. They did nothing to him even though he sent an email to me through the Ebay system saying he just stole the airplane from me and there was nothing I could do about it. So don't believe a minute that Ebay or Paypal is there for you in a large sale.

Theres some good info and some good people here. I got ripped off once and it was when I bought my GT3 from a guy in TX. I paid for the car and a extra set of wheels, the car got on the trailer but the wheels did not. It seems the guy has dropped off the face of the earth with my wheels. $1k down the drain because of someones greed. if TX was close i'd go knock on his door.

I use to be a major hoarder collector/hoarder of sports memorabilia/cards. Sold everything-
my wallet (mainly my wife) was breathing fumes and did not want to sell anything.
I got ripped off once in gazillions of transactions via eBay but due to a vast network of sports memorabilia/card guys- one of them helped me get my item back since he was in same city with buyer. Be nice to have that kinda network or as they say neighborhood watch. Mike

I bought my 356 here on RL and wired the full price before the car was shipped to me. BUT a network of several people I know personally here vouched for the guy and I as well checked the guy out from my own sources. Lots of great people here, but caution is still in order for anything that costs more than a small amount.

I've come to trust Rennlisters. There is always a bad apple in the box. Too bad we can't make the bad ones into applesauce but we can all try and help someone who gets burnt. Huge that we have members that would go knocking on others doors to help.
