Default REPLICA BODY PARTS (lightweight) - vs OEM

I have recently had a relatively major track "off" - so looking for many replacement body parts.
- no insurance cover for the damage of course
Bumper covers, doors, fenders, bonnet, engine lid, wing etc

Am interested in lightweight fibreglass (FRP) or carbon panels as substitutes for OEM parts
- my car is used on the race-track a lot.

Understand Carbon is more expensive - but lighter.
But FRP easier to do minor repair work on from a small bump?

1 - Thoughts on OEM vs FRP vs Carbon?
OEM parts fit well, are good for re-sale etc - but ARE also expensive!

2 - Recommended non-OEM body parts suppliers?
- MA Shaw in USA
- xtrememotorcars in USA
- Revosport in HK
- others?

3 - Fitting "Cup Car" style carbon doors to a car that is still used on the road - seems hard work.
- Issues with locking/security, handles, mirrors, inner parts - is it just too hard/expensive &/or not practical?

many thanks
JB

ps - re fitting "Cup Car" style carbon doors - vs OEM steel doors

- the weight saving apparently is huge - 40 odd pounds per door ?!

I'm not much help on this topic, however unless you have a full cage that also includes door bars the carbon doors are a really big safety risk since you'll be loosing crash protection from the factory doors.

+1 You definitely have to go full cage once you go w/ these doors.

My suggestion is to go w/ lighter CF where possible but look at the $ differential w/ Fiberglass too as the delta in weight savings is not worth the extra $$.. Here is a good recent link to my fiends 996 that recently went on a diet.

Lastly I wouldn't even consider OEM because of $$. Because the car is obviously a track car why spend the OEM $$.

The lightweight body parts in the car linked above came from my wrench's shop 'Speed Gallery' in Studio City, Calif. He created his own molds for all the 996 and 997 GT3 cars and makes an extremely lightweight CF/fiberglass combination material that looks great and is less expensive than the others previously mentioned. Renlister Eric S also has his parts on his 04' GT3 as seen in post #34 of this thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/racing-a...-996-spec.html

Dan the owner of Speed Gallery can be reached at (818) 766-2321

Keep in mind when using aftermarket parts - they will not fit as good as OEM and make sure you have a competent bodyshop as there will be quite a bit of rework.

A lot of them are so used to using plug-n-play OEM body panels, that they are quick to call an aftermarket part "wrong" or "unuseable." Ask me how I know...

On another note, get a cup car rear bumper (featherlight carbon kevlar piece) and a 997 style center exit exhaust for additional weight savings.

I bought some very nice, well fitting aftermarket body parts for my 993 from MA SHAW. He was very easy to work with, and the prices were appropriate.
