I agree with "GoFish". Use the Tearoff Guys for your new windshield.
I cracked mine a few years back, a rock while towing I guess.
Safelight sourced a windshield from Porsche which I promptly had Jim from the Tearoff Guys in Middletown, NY protect with a film. Over that he put an actual "tearoff".
Once a year I peel off the tearoff, the film under is perfect, and have them do another tearoff.
I tried a few tearoffs myself before going to a pro. They have an actual Pcar windscreen they use to heat form a tearoff so it actually goes on nice.

I am now in need of a new windshield. Do you/anyone happen to have the part number for a cup windshield?

Thanks.

no, I already called to ask if could be covered.

I was actually thinking of going with lexan + windshield tearoffs to help protect against scratching. I do, however, still drive my car too and from the track so that might not work.

I'm not familiar with tearoffguys.com, but I have used Protint for years and have been very happy with their product. No affiliation. http://shop.protint.com/category.sc?categoryId=2.

just as an update. 996 cup windshields are NLA. you have to use the regular 996 options or go lexan (which obviously doesnt apply for the road cars).

If u using wipers it'll look like crap on lexan. Tearoffs will look scratched up too and yellow. Go with stock glass unless it's pretty much a track *****. Mike

apparently the 997 cup windshield will work on the 996 with a different rubber strip. Does anyone know the p/n for the 997 cup windshield?

If tearoffs look like crap it wouldn't matter if the windshield was lexan or glass, right? The tearoffs wouldn't work on a track ***** driven in the rain either?

If it is a trackwhore it doesn't matter how ugly front looks as long as u can see thru the scratches : ). Glass won't scratch that easily in most environments. Mike

Got it. I could just tear it off then.

How is your plexiglas installed? A shop I spoke with said I would
have to have some holes drilled on the roof for some tabs since plexiglas doesnt glue well.
