Default Bitter sweet weekend at GRM Ultimate Track Car Challenge

Just got back from VIR after 3 days in an absolutely life threatening heat. Thank god I fixed the generator in the trailer, so I could at least use the A/C 2 out 3 days.

Got there on Friday morning at 7 am, went through tech and had to sticker up the car. Went out for practice on some NT01s and car was loose on track. Felt like I was ice skating out there. Ran something like a 2:11 - it was going to be a tough day. Threw the Hoosiers on and car felt better. For our first timed session the car showed an outside temp of 101! Anyways, got a 2:05.2 out there which made me pretty happy.

Good news - I got fastest Porsche. Bad news - only ran with 2 other P-cars, which became 1 other car after Omar got tangled up with another car and they sidelined him for the day.

Stayed for the weekend to run TTS. Only this time Danny Popp was there with his full blown C5Z with a newly built 402. That car is absolutely nuts. He ended up setting a track record at 1:58.7 - pretty amazing at 8.7 to 1 ratio. I got second both days and ended up running 2:03.7 today. I left pretty proud of getting a 2:03 lap on DOT tire which was 10 heat cycles old on a 100 degree weather weekend, but a win would feel a bit better.

On the plus side I got a failure notification and oil pressure went to 0 - freaked me out, but I've read about the oil pressure sending unit failure a lot on this board. I went to pull over immediately and it shot back up to 5. Figured I'll keep running. So, for those who were at the track with me for PCA at VIR - I now know the problem and will order the new sending unit tomorrow.

Also, got the car dynoed for my TTS compliance. It was hot, but it still did 355 hp and 258 tq. Bad news is I'm wayyyy overweight. Went across the scales at 3370 with almost full tank of gas. Need to lose 250 pounds now. How much does A/C weigh in these cars?

04 GT3

Omar is fine - was pretty angry right after, but who wouldn't! Got some cosmetic stuff on the car, otherwise no big deal.

Glad Omar is OK. 2:03 is a great time at VIR. What mods have you done to the car?

p.s. 2:03 is BLAZING fast in a '6 GT3. The other black car that I nearly bought was maybe even more modified than your car and was turning 2:03's at VIR on full slicks.

Nice piece of driving esp in the heat.

Yeah, was a little concerned when I read that title for sure!

Just saw the results online, so what was Tony Ave driving (Car #44) that posted a 1:48.9 time?

Amazing driving. Congrats. Post vid if you have it. Also, would you say that in 100 degree weather that the R6 are 6 seconds faster than the NT01s? If not, was it that you didn't push that hard with the NT01s? I ask bc I can never get my NT01s within 2 seconds of my R6s. I tend to hate the soft sidewalls of the NT01s. Maybe my Moton/sway bar set up doesn't jive with the NT01s...who knows. Congrats again.

Thanks Scott - no incidents, thank god. My back wheels were way out of balance, so at 140-150 down the back straight car was shaking violently! Then on the last session I heard one single clunk in front suspension - not sure what it was, but I don't like clunking!

Turbo - Tony drove a Riley Prototype car, it was very fast!!!

Rceron - thanks, I was very happy to see the 03 come up on TRaqmate. My setup isn't optimized for NT01s, I was just trying to see how slippery the track was and not wear Hoosiers. I've done 2:07s with NT01s at VIR with some changes to the front settings, so they can work, but still not as good as Hoosiers.

Oh, and unfortunately no video - card was full and didnt have enough time to switch it out - poor preparation on my part.
