Default Pagid RS29

Got a hold of these Pagid RS29 pads. Left are my worn OEM Porsche (yellow) pads with the 'balance weights' on both corners. The Pagids don't have this and they also don't fit without removing the anti squeal pads. Seller told me these were Cup pads. What do you guys think. Can i use these ?

If they go in without the anti-squeal pads, yes. They'll squeal anyway, even if you had the anti-sqeal pads in.

That's what's on my car and has been for 4 years.

I use Blacks (RS14s) on the rear.

Hi Ivo, I always thought the round blocks are there for when the pad material is near gone they touch with the ones on the other pad to stop them going down to metal and damaging the disc. Didn't know they are weights.
You learn something new everyday!
I think they'll be fine to use,the p50's don't have them either
cheers

Not sure what the question is, but I just installed a set of these two weeks ago. No backing plate, no weights, no wear sensors, no springs, and no dust boots anymore (burnt to a crisp).

I was expecting a tight fit, but they went in just fine. Also used a dab of RTV 106 (red silicone) to fix a few of the ceramic pucks that were falling out.

Question was about the balance weights basically where i am now also not sure anymore if they are really balance weights or something else. Whatever their function is, if i can do without them and use them my Question is Answered. Thanks

The RS29 pads for your 996 GT3 are 2707 front and 2405 rear. That said, the 8004 pad which also fits all 997.1 and 997.2 GT3, GT3RS, Cupcars (not grand am spec) etc will work just fine in the front. I posted pics in the 997 GT3 forum recently showing the diffence between the 2707 and the 8004.

The Pagid RS29 will not fit with the factory noise suppression plates, that is correct.

Cheers

The 8004 (inner scallop/cutout) is specifically for the 997.2 and Cup cars - the 997.1 uses the 2707 size.

As I understand it they're not weights, they're dampers designed and installed to alter the frequency/harmonics of the pad in order to stop brake squeal.

After fitting RS29s to the front and rear of my 996 GT2 some years ago, the car suffered from bad brake squeal. I had a set of the dampers machined up and fitted them to the front pads. Regrettably it didn't cure the problem

Some time later I established the rear pads weren't getting up to temperature (the car was used solely on the street) and thus were glazing up and causing the brake squeal.

I removed the rear RS29s and replaced them with the OE PCCB pads and the squeal stopped.

The fabricated dampers (and socket head screws used to fasten them) can be seen in this image.

In theory it'd be a great idea, but in practice what would happen when those two sets of opposing "weights" came into contact with each other . . . . a rock solid brake pedal and little or no retardation !

The RS29s do NOT come equipped with the dampers, the OE PCCB pads and the P90 pads shown below do (you can just see the dampers)

They're early ST Surface Transforms rotors (now supplied by Movit) I first fitted them to the GT2 back in 2007.

We (ST and I) experienced some issues with bedding the pads in and ended up removing the rotors until the problem had been resolved. In the meantime I sold the car.

Late last year I purchased another GT2 with highish miles (70K) and we refitted the rotors to this car after ST had drilled them and carried out a modification to enable a quicker bedding in process.

So far I've only driven the car approximately 250-300 miles but the results are very encouraging.

The car is currently having Ohlins 3 way adjustable dampers fitted along with Cup toe links, Cup rear top mounts, a Ruf exhaust and an ECU remap.

Once the above have been fitted I hope to get some miles on the car and evaluate the rotors properly. Once I've done so, I'll report back !

Apologies to the OP for taking his thread off topic.
