Could you clarify your criteria? (This is in reference to a 997 GT3 versus a 996)
I kept my 996 and spent extensive time in the 997.1. It really depends on what the OP is looking for... Let me summarize IMHO:
6.2GT3 PROS - Visceral ride, wanders like one of those bulls in Pamplona, Spain until the alignment is tamed (and so REWARDING when it is!), NO TC or PASM; Better track car than 7.1; CONS - ugly 996 body, cheap 996 interior, heavier stock than it needs to be, only 380hp.
7.1GT3 PROS - Gorgeous 997 body, nicer interior, 415hp, better street car; CONS - TC, PASM (both are felt on the track), softer suspension, less raw than 6.2GT3.
And his is why you see so many track guys "stripping" the 6.2s of weight and/or boring out the engines for more hp. IMHO, the 6 is the more lethal track weapon and the 7 is the better looking and better combi (track/street) car.
It really comes down to what you want...
And as Mooty pointed out the 997.2 RS 4.0 is the king of the mountain...
My $0.02,

Agreed that you are better off with the .2 RS according to your needs, but the price will be substantially higher.
Looks of the .1 RS are amazing too. For ME, the orange RS is one of the best looking of all time.
I started off looking for a 997 3, but there was/is a limited supply in Canada. Found and ended up with my current 996 3, which is fully set up for the track. But this is all stuff that would have been required on a 997.1 as well. I feel extremely lucky to have found this car.
Going forward, I would love to own a 997.2 RS, but it would mean that I would have to sell the 996, and I can't see that happening any time soon/far. I'll probably end up with a cup instead at some point, but that's just me.
And BTW, I've always loved the looks of the 996... call me crazy

I am with Faust. I have always luved the looks of the 996.2 GT and prefer its slender no-nonsense shape to what the later version have become (is that tacked on scaffolding RS tail Nissan enough for all 'ya?).

LOL MB... It's the boy racer rear facing skirt scoops that got me!!! (JK)
I dunno - I guess I am struck in tradition. When I look at a 911 next to a 964 next to a 993 next to a 997 - the evolution just works. The 996 doesn't seem to fit... Purely subjective though!
What DOES fit is DRIVING a 996 GT3. Nothing like it...

For future use here is a direct comparison of some tacked on plastic Vs svelte beauty. Strictly subjective of course

There is huge value imo in the 6GT3 compared to even the 7.1 GT3s. Ya you lose some comforts and tech and driver nannies, but the 6 is very special. I love mine more the longer I own it.
Two friends have owned 6 & 7.1 GT3s and prefer the 6.
The 7.2? Ya, probably the best street/track car, but you gotta pay to play.
(The 6 is fine on the street btw. Only back to back comparo with the 7.2 would make you think twice about ride quality etc.)

Blake, luv ya man... But what is so gorgeous about the 997.1 GT? Is it the boy racer rear facing skirt scoops? or the hole cut in the roof?

one is timeless. the other...... not so sure.
usually i like wider rear on just about everything. but... the 6 gets under your skin...... i have a feeling i may get a few more of them...
