Chris, I would very much enjoy that.

I will also try to show up early on Friday, my cousin, RSR member Marc G (grey 996 GT3, what d'ya know ), will be running with Viper Club and will give me a few laps to familiarize myself with the track.

Cheers,
Francois

Calabogie is technical with many linked corners, a few fast bits but not like Mosport, The Glen or LCMT. If you can drive Calabogie fast you can drive anywhere fast.

Francois watch Keith's video. Can't seem to find Bruce's.

or this tarted up video featuring Quiksilver:

Of the attendees this weekend Bruce, myself, Santiago Rios & Jim Hoddinott have the most laps at Calabogie.

I have a couple hundred laps logged... in the CMP truck and "Marshal-mobile"....

Jorge also has a ton of current "hot lap" track time!

I know Santi & I are well over 1000 laps. Probably over 1500. Maybe even 2000. We spent a lot of time there in 2007, 2008 & 2009 before it became tougher to take off time from work.

I know I am late to the conversation on this topic, but only just now discovered this thread. I tend to agree with gearing over the ring and pinion choice. But there is one very pertinent thing to consider on that issue.

The shorter you make 3rd gear, the smaller it gets. And the shorter it's lifespan becomes. Especially since it's the gear you spend the most time in, it's something people need to be aware of. When you regear without changing the ring and pinion you are often running ratios that are between 1.684 and 1.789. For ANY of the ratios within this range, Paul Guard used to tell people that the gear has a 30 hour track life. Anyone who runs these ratios needs to track the time on their gearbox, in the same way they track the time on their engine, and go into the box and inspect and/or replace the gear around the 30 hour mark. In the last month I have seen two 3rd gear failures on ratios in this range on DE cars that the owners didn't consider at risk because they weren't racecars.

This is why, when I consult a 3,4,5 revision for a DE customer, you will almost always see me plug in a 1.65, 1.632 or 1.600 3rd gear. Yes, going shorter will be faster, but it also compromises lifespan, and for someone who isn't racing and isn't ready to pony up the cash to go inside of the gearbox at least once a year, those super short 3rd gears aren't a good choice for the couple tenths of a second a lap it gains you on your way to "winning" your DE.

After a fun weekend I can attest that Crazy Canuck's car is fast out of the corners with his new tranny. IN several of the slower corners where I was in third gear, he would pull away from me. His car also looks super stable.
I cheated though and had on michelin slicks to his worn cups so i was still able to catch him in the corners. ONce he gets his slicks on I'll have to drive really hard to catch him.
FFaust, thanks for the drive, I hope that the little changes made a difference.
Nice seeing you all!

Chris R got some remedial help from Santi who gave away some of our go fast tips. Don't think he gave away all of them though.

My Cups were done but it was fun sliding around and yes the stability and composure of the suspension is very confidence inspiring and worth every penny IMO. No more turn in, hop and then set. Now it's turn in and the car has settled. When is your monoball suspension and remote resevoir shocks coming Chris?

Spent the weekend figuring out shift points. Not sure I'm any faster yet but once I get the hang of things it will be.

Fun weekend in any case. See you ladies at Tremblant next week.
