Default **UPDATED (post 23) ** Another Coolant Line Failure

Just to keep the information flowing, I had a coolant line blow. It was actually the press fit coupler at the power steering pump. All of the coolant dumps in about 5 seconds! lol. Lucky I was near home when it happened. Repair summary at post 23. Pics below.

Classic! Thank god nobody was following you at a track : )

Now the problem is what you do with it? If you have warranty the dealer will "fix" it with the same way it failed, unless you press him to use other methods.
If you haven't done so do a search in the 7GT3 forum and here for sollutions and details on the new hot "RMS" issue.

Research and do a search on Mike Avitt's solution. I don't remember his user name, but I believe it has GT3452 in it. He was at the track this weekend with no problems. He posted pics and had a weld solution.

Sorry to hear, but welcome to the club! Unfortunately a very common problem...fortunately for you, it happened on the street and NOT track.

Check the latest issue of Excellence (feb 2011 I think)--in the tech form there's a great write up. The guys @ Sharkwerks have been warning about this issue for years! Check w/ shark guys Alex and James, they have a solid fix that I'll have them do soon.

Any competent aluminum welder can fix it for good. Theres actually a turbo @ IPB autosport right now getting the coolant pipe ends welded.

Once the first one goes, it's a good idea to just take care of all the glued/pressed-in coolant fittings. They are a pain to get to though.

I'd drill and tap a small hole thru the aluminum and into the pressed in pipe nipple almost all the way thru. Then insert a small set screw with high tem med strength thread locker. Fixed!

This was the second one that failed on my car, it's in the power steering bracket. There are 8 of these that need fixing, need to pull engine and fix all to be dependable. Just finished first weekend at the track with two drivers and no issues. I also replaced the LSD with OS GIKEN, I was very impressed with this upgrade. Finished third fastest only 3 hundreths off second. Ilove this car!!!!!!!!

Thank you for sharing and great photographs to help others understand. Some folks read about this and assume it is a hose failure and it is not.

My guess is Porsche AG cut costs on these plumbing connection areas with a result of higher failure rate. The pipe should have been machined from the part rather than fixing the separate pipe with adhesive, that is what Porsche AG used to do.
