Default Just installed 2010 GT3 shifter....wow!

After reading the feedback from a number of members on this board, I ordered the 997.2 GT3 shift mechanism from Suncoast. My shop did the install for me on Monday and they made it look fairly easy. I topped it off with an alcantera 997 shift **** and boot from Carnewal ($$$). The difference is amazing.

From day one when I purchased my 996 GT3, my only dislike was the feel of the shifter. It felt very "cheap and plastic". Now, it's tight and solid. Short throws and a solid feel. The car feels completely different and is much more enjoyable to drive, as if it wasn't already amazing enough.

One note for anyone doing the install at home: The new mechanism comes with a green plastic attachment, which when clicked into place holds the shifter at exactly dead neutral. When this is in place, it should make for a plug and play exchange when connecting to the shifting cables. As you know, the cables are adjustable, but my shop made sure to install the cables directly into the new mechanism without any adjustment and the fit was perfect. I hope that makes sense.

Thanks to everyone who shared their feedback about the shifter upgrade. It is well worth the price.

-Dan

This is the 997 GT3 shifter, part # 997.424.010.91. The part description is for a "2010 GT3". The console is different for the GT3 vs. stock 997, as far as the parts selection goes at least.

Mike

the 997.1 GT3/RS had 997 424 010 00 shifter and that was same part used in all 997 Carreras except if they had opted for the short shifter which was different

997.2 GT3 /RS has newer shifter 997 424 010 91.

No but why not go to Mooty's garaze remove his center console and take some pics.
Besides sooner or later he s gonna strip her too. You draw first blood.

Btw I didn't extensively drive the 2010gt3 but from a short drive I still think that the 996 cup shifter with CUP cables is much much better. John agrees

yes, the cup car cable and shifter is better, but the 997 shifter is not far behind.
both are "crisp".

that said, i also like 996gt3 shifter. it's more buttery smooth, more japanese car like, should i say.

the only reason i did mine was b/c PO put in B&M shifter which is not what i liked. otherwise, i would have stayed with the one that came in 6gt3.

Or you can go to TC Design and take pictures there

I was having my harnesses installed yesterday and saw the Mooty-mobile there!

Very slick drive - got me all jealous.

I have a 04 Black GT3. I had these guys put in their rollbar and install harnesses as well (I bought a pair a Euro seats recently). My car is pretty much stock..... got to learn how to drive it first (coming from a E46 M3 and a "track" miata )

I will be at Laguna Seca and Button Willow around thxngiving with NCRC - hope to see you (and others) there!

Arnaud.

Oui - French

I might have picked up Jame's actually (I bought it two weeks ago). I think he had also a TT according to Tony @TCD.

I am already looking at that short Cup shifter / cable option. Coming from a miata, the shifting on the GT3 is kind a so-so. I have just received a B&M SSK, but according to posts here I might just skip it and go for the "better" solution.

Then you have the Moton shocks - tempting down the road!!!!

===> B&M SSK, hahaha, tony wont put it in for you. he hates it on my car. he did the cup shifter/cable install for me.

===> yep. tony is a reseller and moton factory rebuild center. he will set you up. i must have had 5-6 sets from him.
