About the rear brakes, didn't the 7.2 get cooling for the rear that can be retrofitted to the 7.1?
If I can ever afford one of these cars, I'd get a 6GT3 or a 7.2RS depending on the budget and wouldn't worry about anything in between.

Here in Canada the 6 is 2/3rds the price of the 7.1. Not really huge savings.
I can get a 7 with warranty.
2 996’s sitting in the garage.
I would of course drive this on dry summer days so some street comfort is nice to have.
6's are harder to come by or hard to find one that hasn't been in an accident and specific colors other then shades of grey or hard to find.
6's and 7's all share similar problems so nothing gained here either way.
Someone mentioned the 7 as an easier car to progress to from an awd 911, which I am used to how it drives and I guess don’t really know what under steer is since I’ve only ever driven one. I have driven a 3.4 C2 and other then feeling that the C2 has a more twitchy on turn in didn’t find it a big deal, just easier to turn in while the C4S needs more muscle and some right foot.
On paper from owner manuals the weight difference between them is 50 lbs +-20 lbs.
7’s are faster
7 widebody, wider track, center exhaust, looks of the rear bumper & front bumper are stunning, standard interior is 100% better looking
Then again I would still be very tempted if the 6 was 1/2 price. I'd probably go with it and wait 3 or 4 years for a 998 GT3

Actually the RS owner runs with it off and never has run with it on.
I think the rear cooling and brake bias is the main reason for the wear.
Also believe me I didn't take it out of context. He went on for a half hour bashing his car. "Dancing under braking", "doesn't pull on the 6 down the back straight" (Mosport) "Heavy", "to much sound proofing" Knocking on the roofs of both hear that tinny sound on the 996 roof. Hear that solid sound on the 997. Complaining it was slower on his local track then his 6 (Mt Tremblant). He did mention that running Hoosiers was an improvement though his 6 runs MS cups. Suspension adjustments came only 1 click from max, complained of sever under steer and setting not being able to do anything about it.
He pointed out his dentist had one, the doctor up his street had one. Complaining that Porsche advertising it as the ultimate track car was pure garbage.
Anyways he's definitely a pissed off Porsche customer.

If your really looking for a 996 GT3 than send me an PM. I have a Canadian Spec GT3 for sale with 17500km on it. Price for the Canadian market as we both know 6-GT3's are cheaper in the US.

How much fun would that be hanging at red line top speed assuming it can hit top speed.
I'd have to switch regions to even track it with our regions DE events.
Oh and they charge us 20k more for the same car here in Canada.

Speaking of the 2010 lotus 240 or 260. Top speed is 240 kph (150mph), at my track I am hitting almost 230 kph which in reality is really slow compared to GT3's or 996 TT's

Perhaps not relavent but have you considered a 6-cup. Lots to choose from and you have a purpose built track car. They are diabolically fast and have all the safety bits built in plus you would get a complete spares package. If not I would go for the 7-rs

yes, all good points. makes sense.
one thing though, in USA, like canada, 6 are still 2/3 the price of 7. on avg 55k vs 80k
7 is faster indeed.
the two cars also feel different.
