I'm looking at buying a 2004 GT3 from a Porsche dealer. Should I order a PPI from another independent Porsche mechanic or do I trust the PPI from the dealer?

Can you trace who the original owner was? I see that you are in Encinitas, CA and if the car is somewhat local there must be only a few places she has been. If not, the car must be barely used. More than a few people here trust extremely low miles 996 GT3.

If you want to look at my car or need extra set of eyes to spot a few indicators, let me know. I am in South Orange County. Also, there are a few gents in San Diego area with 996 GT3's.

P.S. This weekend is Phoenix Club meet at Honda Center in Anaheim. I heard it is not "great" for new Porsches but it is still great to go...

I spoke with the Porsche dealer and it is one owner that has been taking the car in there for maintenance the entire life of the car. They know the owner well and verify he has taken good care of it and not tracked it. It's low miles- 98xx and seems in perfect condition. It's not in the S. Cal area.

How much value should I place on the Porsche certified warranty of 2 year, 100,000 miles when evaluating the fair price of this car? I will try to get them to extend the years.

It's a beautiful car, but we are not looking for yellow. I will forward this to others who may be looking.

The Porsche CPO/certified warranty may be null & void if you track the car at all. I'm not 100% sure on that, but be sure to ask the question and make sure it's in writing. Most warranties don't cover a car that is used on the track.

Very high! One time coolent hose bust or a Coil-Over-Plug failure will nearly cover the cost of CPO! If you find a minute drop of leak at RMS on a low mileage car and you care to fix it; bamm!

The way it stands now, I would pay about $4000 for the warranty. The dealer says it would be valid even on the track. I am not planning on putting many miles on the car, it will only be for fun and occasional track driving so its hard to see how I will get my moneys worth. If I was planning on putting 90k miles on it in 2 years then I would go for it, but it will probably be more like 10k miles in 2 years.
Any other opinions? Am I missing anything here?
