Default My recent experience....

Rennlist
Autotrader; set up a 'Saved Search', and check it every night
PCNA
PCA.org
cars.com
eBay

I hit these sites at least a few time a day everyday until I found a few candidates, but that is just the tip of the iceberg.

Depends on what you want of course, and what you want to spend. Track, Street, Both? Define that first; it will make your search a little less frustrating. Make a list of 'Must Haves' and stick to it.

Plan on a PPI regardless. Also, post your candidate cars here for public review. Lots of people here know lots of info about lots of GT3s and most are very helpful; they can help you avoid a mistake car.

Have your finances sorted. When you find the right car, chances are someone else will want it too, so be ready to strike first!

I found mine via Autotrader.

Good Luck!

This one? If it is, that car was sweet. Red is a rare color too.

Unless you're buying from a baller like Dave who under-prices his stuff so much that the the first person to come look is bound to buy.

I live just south of you and have a black '04 that I should sell in the next few weeks as my project car is nearly finished and coming home (i.e. no garage space). I'll PM you with my cell number. Thanks

I bought mine from a Rennlister, who bought mine! Talk about incestuous...

The red car in Oregon is long gone. That was the car to have! Factory AC delete, all the RS stuff from Europe, and on and on. I know thw seller, and I can vouch for his credentials. The car is now in the hands of another Rennlister in Arizona......

I just bought my no story car for $47,500 (close to $45,000) - original asking price was $55,900. I really was taking a risk by buying it before even trying to sell my 993 C4S but thought it was too good of a deal to pass up.

It was the daily driver of a doc in Alabama - 36,000 miles (on the higher end but no track miles), lapis blue, ceramic brakes and the all important hands free blue tooth cell phone kit (I lol-ed when I saw it too).

Mooty and LVDell are exactly correct (as usual)

Bought mine from a friend, original owner. Car was never advertised for sale. I wanted the car since it was new and glad he put so many miles on the car so I could afford it!

Thanks all. Yeah, I'm going to keep my eyes on rennlist. I know how it is on car forums, I've spent years on Audi forums. I know that community so well that I'd only pick up a car with a well known history from the right person. Here on the Porsche forums though, I'm in a new world...

@Serge944: Haha, why do all the cars I like spend so much time on 3 wheels! I'll be selling my Ohlins off my Audi and downgrading it to a reasonable street suspension when I find a gt3.

@jberkes: Thanks, please let me know.

@jasonfreed: Wow, $47K? Let me know if you have some leads!

Just curious, how many of you do your own wrenching? I know it's hard to quantify, but what would you say the "hassle" level is? For example... My car has an engine bay so crammed that little things can be difficult. On the other hand, brakes and suspension are pretty easy to mess with. Lifting motor/trans for mounts is relatively easy. Center diff is easy. Rear diff is moderate. Catback is easy, but downpipes are a hassle. Turbo access requires removing the engine and is very time consuming. What's all this like on a GT3?

Thanks.

911s are pretty easy to work on if you have a lift. Never pulled an engine on a watercooler, but it was straight forward on a 964. Once you get the *** off the ground - you have access to everything.

January '05. Local dealer advertised in the PCA Golden Gate Region newsletter. At the time, the price was slightly below market, so I called. I got it $5K below the asking price. Now, they're selling 70% of that, so 30% depreciation to me in 5 years.

I am the third owner of this one. Prior two owners put about 2500 miles on it. Too rough for them, they both went to Turbos. I now have 30K miles.

Tried selling it a couple of times, no luck. Fortunate for me.

+1 on most of the advice on here. You have to put some effort into the search and it should be fun.

As far as dealers go, good cars end up there as well because the owner is in a hurry to get rid of it (trade in) or doesn't want to be bothered with the selling process. Sad part is the car's history is worth a lot to the buyer and dealers don't want to deal with history.

I'd been browsing for over a year when mine popped-up (1/08) at a dealer about an hour away. Have you seen this one yet: http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst...593344232.html
