Hi guys. I read this older thread as i am trying to decide between an MY03 996 GT2 with the EVO 660 kit fitted, or a 997 GT3 (3.6L). Both are approximately the same price second hand now. Assume both are immaculate.

The purpose of the car is a weekend toy and will be used for track days too. The grunt of the GT2 is amazing. My mechanic (very experienced with Porsche's) suggests that the 997 GT3 is the car to go for given I want to track it too. His view is the GT2 will have too many issues, the GT3 will just 'go', and the extra wright of the GT2 means that it just doesn't have the right 'balance'.

So, what are anyone else's insights or points of view - 997 GT3 or 996 GT2?

Is it a keeper you're shopping or just a "couple year" car? I'd go with a 997GT3 over a moddified 996GT2. And the big question on any modified turbo is this... How long until you need to go through that motor? Kevin at UMW has a whole bunch of broken "Turbo" motor parts laying around from customers boosted cars. My 996TT was a 650BHP car most of its life (2001 model) and when I sold it in 2011, one of the chief concerns I had was "How long until a rod lets go?"

I'd either go for a "stock and un modified GT2" or none at all.

997 gt3 or 996 gt3.
robert owned mark's sy 996 before the gt2, and i strongly suspect he regrets ever selling it.

driven a 997gt3.2 on track at qr. was very nice. never driven a gt2, but i'm not a turbo man.
all depends on whether you are a 'turbo' man.
mark's car is THE BEST.
if you ask robert, maybe you could share a trackday in the gt2. next day at ec is on may 24th.
after that date, everything is moved to wakefield.
