Woot. Another ex-E46 M3 driver here. $20k isn't enough to make the car into GT3 competitor. Trust me you need a lot more. I've maxed out NA and semi lightweight car with all the suspension bits (no motons but RSM, GC sways, links, mounts, blah blah blah) but it's still heavy and underpowered compare to the GT3. It's a great car tho.

Mine was also supercharged, at the time i was second in the US with the AA kit.. Suffice to say, I had nothing but problems, the car never even saw the track because it just wouldn't run right... And if it did? Probably overheat, a waste!

I did CF roof, every body panel, stripped interior a bit, you name it , it was done! What a cool project and car, especially the build.. But after it was all complete, and having the headaches, I don't miss it.. It was a far better car setup in NA form with a sick suspension/seats/gears/brake kit and wheels!

I raced an e36m3 and to be competitive you need 25k minimum, the front runners have 40k easily, and use a new set of hooters per race. I broke something every race

E46M3??? 50k easily. The consumables are crazy, the car is so heavy.

Super/turbo charged Cmod guys, The front runners go through engines like toilet paper. One guy has like 250k in his.

careful Dell on the 964 you 2 can rack it up there.
10K moton's
25K rebuild
5k wheels (per set say 3 sets) =15K
5K in Suspension bits. (Erp etc)
car @ 40K
your half way there
wreck it and add 25K

humm.... been there & could have bought a 996 cup and sported it for a year.
Gave up and payed off most of the house instead

63 is tempting (but i just bought a so called DD a 95' Defender) & looking at a 73' project
wife's going to kill me at some point

that explains why i went cheap with BSR.

2K pss9's
what rebuild? junk yard motor $4k tops
600 per set of wheels, this is real price on craigslist some even cheaper. OEM 17" (per set say 3 sets) =1800
4K in Suspension bits. (no monoball, but GT3 control arms, adj swaybars, toe linx)
donor car @ $12k for a 50k mile 1999 car

wreck it and add 15K tops

downside: not as fast as some of the more $$$ cars.

Dan, you haven't sold that thing yet? If I had the need for a DD, then I'd buy it but with 5 cars right now I can't justify any more cars

By the way, when are you going to meet up with us on Saturday for coffee???

i hear you dell - i stopped a long time ago and just started filing them by year - the whole lynch racing thing was just to write down some. sold a few things a year to justify it was a business but that's over since i sold the domain to a NASCAR west team.
i'm just about ready to start a file on the D90 - hopefully not a large one (the Cup's is inch's thick with receipts)
just build more garage space to justify another car empty bays are lonely...

Colby,

Damn, I just saw this thread, Shows how busy I am. That's weird I'm about to buy a 6 and your selling yours..wtf. Horrible timing man. Dude if things are getting bad like everyone else. I heard pots easy to grow once you get it down. Plus its still tax free!!! haha Naw really though start parting it if ya have to.
Also used to own a E36M3. That car is nutz with handling. I have drove a couple 46m3's and they are heavy plus the weight balance isn't as good. I have heard from several bimmer guys that it is the next best thing to a 6 and that it is the best in the bimmer fleet. I'm sure victor could vouch on that too. Also if people dont like them seats I told you I'd carbon them no $, I owe you for all the R&D help. I could do it all in one day too. Anyways good luck either way.

More food for thought, you could always just get a plain carrera or one with some mods... some reasonable ones are only about 22. Then + 10 in mods. you'd still have like 2o somethin left over. Also plain 7's are now in the the low $40's...

We have the e46 m3 CSL in the UK and they are not as quick as GT3s. Also not as robust. Nice cars though.

For cheaper trackdays in a road car i always think the Lotus Elise derivatives are hard to beat. The consumables bill is half that of a GT3.

p.s. can't fathom how you can do trackdays for 500 USD. Brake pads last 5 trackdays, same for cups (av with front + rears), then there is the exta maintenance bills to factor in over time (e.g. clutch, diff rebuild etc). Sorry depressing subject I know!
