If you're going to stick with one set of wheels/tires then a lighter wheel would help and the stock PS2's are pretty good all around tires. Rear toe links do help a surprising amount and they don't affect the ride comfort at all. Your alignment looks good but watch the rear tire temps. I fine tuned my race car alignments with tire temp reading but I think on the GT3 the exhaust heats up the inside of the tire quite a bit. I started at -1.75 rear and the tire temps were 30 deg hotter on the inside indicating too much camber. The tire wear however showed that it was not enough camber so I'm now at -2.3. The tire wear pattern is much better but is not reflected by the temps which remain very high on the inside.

Stock brake pads are not RS-19, despite the yellow color.

Inexpensive mods that will help on the track are. IMHO

Cup Car Front splitter
Rear Toes Links are mandatory.
I would run Yokohama AD07's in stock sizes. Much better than PS2's
Proper Alignment/Corner Balance/Ride Height Adjust

More Money
CCW C10's
Seat, I use a Sparco Pro 2000, much less than a GT3 seat.
Roll Bar and Harness.

All of these will make a better track car and not degrade the streetability of the GT3

I am the original owner of my car delivered in June 04. I did step-by-step mods that have helped tremendously in learning the car (coming from an E30 M3) and allowing me to stay on a modest budget.

Year 1:
- proper alignment and ride height
- GT3 seats
- rollbar and harnesses

Year 2:
- set of track tires
- LTW flywheel
- Performance brake fluid and pads
- Cup car rear toe links
- 993 RS engine mounts
- RS rear arms

Year 3:
- RS rear wing & cup splitter
- Traqmate data acquisition and video (great learning tool)

Year 4:
- Lighter wheels for track

Hope this helps.

Best bang for buck without any degradation in streetability - LWFW!

Euro buckets are a must. If you need access to the rear, then install just the driver's side.

Both the above will greatly improve the experience on both road and track.

One of the simplest and most satisfying upgrades for me was to upgrade the touchpoint with the car... Porsche Cup steering wheel!

+1 for all the above, also:
Rear shock tower monoballs (the fronts already have them)
Substitution of other rubber equipped components for monoball or solid mounts
Stock damper re-valve and re-spring (several people do this, I know Dan Jacob's does a lot of these)
Lighter mufflers ie Maxflow

Wish list:
Double adjustable dampers with Eibach main + helper combo
RS front hood
Cup car rear deck and wing
Lighter brake rotors, floating would be my preference
Electric power steering conversion
8:32 R&P (or re-gear if you're ok with inspecting your gearbox every year)
Replace rear sides and rear window with Cup Lexan (fits right into stock seals)

hmmmm, should the wish list just say "Cup Car"?

Austin, can you give more info on the light mufflers.

I'd like to get a little more sound (but still be legal at Laguna Seca), and save a lot of weight. But, I don't want to lose Hp or Torque. By "maxflow" do you mean Fabspeed or some other brand? What do you recommend?

The slippery slope seems to have become more of a cliff. Take the darn thing to the track and have some fun!

Does the Cup front splitter makes a noticeable difference?

+1 on both counts esp the alignment/camber/etc

very happy with fabspeed headers and mufflers

might want to get a spare set of wheels too

not unless you have the RS rear wing with at least 4 deg shim or stock wing with 8 deg shim...

There is a bunch of discussion on mufflers and details on sound and fitment if you search a lot in this forum. The mufflers I was referring to are the Fabspeed or Evoms (Todd Zuccone in AZ) mufflers. They're the same product (or used to be) and are about $1150 per pair, which is a lower price than the super quality Cargraphic's. The Maxflows are great sound enhancers, and about 10lbs lighter than stock. The fitment is pretty darn good, although to make your tips line up perfectly you'll have to do some bending of the brackets. You can get it pretty close and it will be 100% functional in about 2 hours. Caleb here on Rennlist has some from 2005, he's from SF. I know he's been to Laguna and Sears.

I really have to recommend the Evoms mufflers, they ship from AZ and might even be good for very slight torque or HP increase, you can call Todd and ask. I'll testify that I really like the sound, it just sounds more deep and sport like, as if it has more roar, without any resonance or popping noise.

I've also heard good things about Remus for Porsche lately, they're worth looking into if not priced super high. I haven't heard them on a GT3 or inspected them with my own eyes, although I'm very very familiar with their BMW products and recommend them highly.

Whatever you do, I recommend not monkeying with your cats here in CA, let them remain as stock.

Austin, do you know anyone who's had power steering made electric? Always wondered how viable this would be and what it would cost?

The mod is made up of bolt on components from the 996 RS, RSR race cars and 997's.

To complete this conversion, you'll need the pump, shorter belt, and hoses from Porsche Motorsport. Do you have access to the parts film from Motorsport? Most of the numbers are 997 numbers due to supercession. Last I knew, cost was about $1200 for take-off's removed from a race car.

I believe Viper Bob has done one of these, I personally have only sold the components, hopefully this helps a bit.
