Why do people fake badge a GT3 a GT3RS?

Why do I feel so left out!

Dell,
I am hearing ya on the fake RS stuff - it is even worse when (a) you actually own the real deal (or used to) and (b) in your area they are actually factory delivered cars....
So the reason I am chiming in is this:
On my 993TT I am about to do the FULL GT2 kit: Aluminium bonnet, doors, composite bolt on guards and spoilers.... currently my GT2 wing has the stock turbo badge - and the car is just a little modded - but is it sacrilege if I badge it like the factory cars "911 GT" in the way that a 73 RS replica is badged?
When is it acceptable to do so?
Never?
I mean if could I would take the badges off all of my cars I would - but as I am building a replica of a car that was never imported.....?

Seems simple to me: don't pretend to be a car you're not.
I can understand why the kids with the beaters do it, but there's no need for a car that's already very nice to begin with.

Well I stand by "To each his own", but I thought this was a funny thread I came by because on my '12 Dinan S2 M5 I actually debadged the "M" emblems and replaced them with 528i (yes there was still a 528 before the 535 in 2012 lol)
People crack up at it, others are clueless and confused. I found a bunch of teenagers laughing at it at a mall parking lot saying how "stupid a 535 looked with an M5 body kit and that the owner is this and that", when they saw me get in they quieted down and then they heard the roar of that turbo V8 come outta the Dinan exhaust

There is some interesting psychology in this debate - so the guy who badges his genuine GT3 as an RS is a poseur but the guy who fits a GT3 kit to a Carrera is not as long as he doesn't rebadge it? And the guy who putts around town in a genuine RS with no intention of tracking it is not a poseur either? And if you have a genuine RS you're on some higher plane and so are rightfully annoyed when someone unjustifiably tries to measure up?
I reckon there's a bit of poseur in all P car drivers. Yes we love the drive and performance but don't tell me you don't like people admiring your car. I'm not into the body kit and badging scene but to those who are, go for it. Do. what you want it's your car. You're probably devaluing the car though....
For the record I have a genuine 996 GT2 but previously had a 964 that was RS'd with mirrors, wheels, ducts, lowered, badges and it looked great. I bought it like that but fitted RS469 plates which some people poked fun at. Who gives a **** - I sold it on as a C2 with RS bits. It looked a lot better than stock - low, cup rims etc.
