Default WTB: GT3 monoball strut mounts

Just thought I'd throw it out there prior to ordering from Suncoast. The camber plates I had on my 996 C2 have become horribly noisy and since they're basically the same setup I'd like to switch to the GT3 monoballs insead.

If anyone has a spare set laying around you'd like to get rid of please let me know.

Thanks

Andy

I am pretty sure that the monoballs for a GT3 are different than the ones for a 996 C2. The frame of the GT3 is the same as a TT or GT2. I sold my GT3 front suspension to a fellow Rennlister for his C2, and he found that the front monoballs were not the same. I can find his name if you would like to contact him for more info or to buy what he has, if he still has them.

hummm...the top mounts are def. different from the C2 to the GT3 which is why I'm after the GT3 mounts, but they should still mount right up in my C2 with aftermarket coilovers. All of the camber plates on the market are basically a copy of the GT3 mounts but for some reason more expensive rather than less expensive.

I would however be interested in hearing what problems that person had as there are several guys with full GT3 suspension on their C2's without issue.

The hole pattern on the body panel where the strut top attaches is the same for all the 986/987/996/997.

However, the strut tops are different. The GT3 struts cannot be used with 996 Carrera strut tops, neither can the stock 996 struts be used with 996/997 GT2/GT3 strut tops. The problem lies on the GT cars springs being very narrow, so the stock 996 Carrera springs don't sit flat with the GT camber plate.

By the way Andy, I have a pair of those monoball camber plates from my 996 GT3. I switched the car to Manthey Racing camber plates, and the new owner is enjoying them.

I sold my GT3 struts with GT3 camber plates, and the set could not be used on a 996 C2. The shocks and springs will fit, but not the GT3 camber plates. I believe it is more than just the spring size, because my springs fit with the camber plates. It has to do with the frames being different.

hummm...conflicting but interresting info here.

Rad you think the shaft diameter is different between the two cars on the struts themselves. I've got H&R Clubsport coilovers on my car which have been on there with both the stock rubber C2 upper strut mounts and then with Schnell's camber plates. However I had noise issues with the Schnell's so I took them back off.

I know Paul 996 has a full GT3 suspension on his car struts/camber plates/etc and I've sent him a PM about possible issues as well as PM'd the person who bought Chuck's suspension but havn't heard anything back from them yet.

I'm just looking for a quiet(er) solution to get the same camber I had with the schnell plates and if the GT3 plates work then great (I'm aware of the possible caster issues with them).

If they don't work I understand that the Tarett plates are very good but if the GT3 plates will do the same thing for less money it's more I can put towards track time instead.

If I remember correctly, the camber plates that I sold with my stock GT3 struts was made by AWE. Those camber plates were purchased by the person from whom I bought my Motons, and fit his GT2 and my GT3, but not the C2 of the person who bought my set. He told me he called AWE and was told they were different fitments. They may be able to give you more information.

The strut shaft on the 996 Carrera and 996 Turbo has a different diameter.

However, the shaft on the H&R ClubSport could be different as well.

The stock GT3 front struts have a 14mm shaft. Check your diameter.

My stock C2 mounts are 14mm diameter. I also confirmed that a couple of guys are running the GT3 plates with PSS9's on their cars. However if anyone else has any input to cofirm that would be great as I'm about sick of taking the front suspension apart!

Hey everyone,

Andy, I can only confirm that a GT3 suspension will absolutely bolt in to a standard 996 C2 Coupe as well as a Cab. I simply unbolted my stock M030 and bolted in the takeoff GT3 susp. This is the complete set up, shocks, springs and upper strut mount.

The GT3 upper strut mounts work with the PSS9s because they are so close in diameter to the H&R springs used on the stock GT3. Hope that helps.

It may be the AWE mount that I had which was made for the GT2-GT3 is different than the stock GT3 mount. AWE may be able to sort out the difference.

I actually got a PM from the Gent you sold your stuff to and he confirmed it to be the AWE mount that was unique and caused the issues for him. He felt strongly the GT3 mount would work fine.

Great, I'm glad that has been resolved. Good luck with the upgrade. See you at the track sometime.
