Default Radar Detector, Finally Have to Do It

I've been avoiding a detector purchase for years, just more clutter, to me. But this spring the police have been out with a vengence. Just don't like the idea of having to look over my shoulder all the time looking for someone pointing a timing device at me. So that brings me to my question, I'd appreciate any recommendations as to which detectors I might consider. The old stand by V1 might be an obvious choice but anything new on the market I should consider as well? I've done a search, no lack of info. or opinions, just wondering if there might be something new, latest/greatest, I should look into.
Tnx

It appears most are combining V1 with some sort of laser jammers.

I have escort srx system - radar and laser "shifter" (because "jammer" just sounds so illegal)

I like it.
It works.

Escort has a new system coming out shortly that is the new an improved version... 9500Ci I beleive...

Nice set up as it is an all in one as opposed to the v1 and add on jammers...

To me, the arrows alone make the V1 the one to get (I believe that he's got a patent on them). I've had my V1 for years and have yet to see anything that I'd swap it for.

+3 V1. I've used a radar detector off and on for about 4 years, and just got the V1 last year when I realized how often I went looking for the source of the beam. Got tired of whipping my neck back and forth. The V1 tells me where the radar is located. Is it any better or worse than other high-quality units at detection? Can't really tell you, but the arrows are worth it, IMO.

I have a V1 and love it. It's portable and can be used in any car.

Now, I just bought the GT3 a month ago and it had an Escort built in with the laser shifter as well. Very nicely installed and it works just fine. I had occasion to thank it just the other day. I jumped on the car in 1st and second up to maybe 70MPH, all of a sudden a sound erupted that I thought was my cell phone going off. I lifted instinctively and low and behold, there was a motorcycle cop pointing a laser right at me. I coasted past expecting the worst, and realized the cop pointed it at the next car past me like I wasn't even there. I doubt I registered on his screen at all. The shifter worked perfectly.

Both products appear to work well.

V1! Day to day and at serious speeds there is no question that V is the ticket. Great factory repair service for the long time user. Most importantly it provides the best situation awareness!

I have a V1 hardwired in my M5 -- it is fantastic... By far the best DETECTOR due to the arrow... however... when laser is involved, the V1 becomes a "ticket notification device"... I beleive you have less than 3/10ths to react to a V1 laser notification before the cop gets a reading.

a few of the guys up here run the Escort SRX and a V1... escort for the "shifting" and V1 for the arrows...

Laser in your area... get a shifter/jammer.

Here is how the escort works...

driving along at 90 mph... god awful noise comes on... and says "laser laser laser".... you slow down (i reccomend not jamming on the brakes as when the cop sees your nose drop abrubtly... you might as well get your registration ready).... as you are coasting down the the speed limit... the display says "shifting" and the alert is still going... once you get to a legal speed, press the mute button which cancels the shifting and lets the cop "get a legal reading" and you glide right by...

This has happened to me several times... and I am always amazed... a proper jammer gives you the time to slow down to legal speed... in most cases, he lasers your car, gets a bad read, and moves to the next car.

Or you can keep jamming the laser and drive right by... but I have always thought that if the cop keeps lasering you and getting bad readings... he may get pissed and try to make an example of you... in my mind better to let him get a legal reading and then move on to the next guy.

Most of the jamming systems have rear mounted protection... and in a local test, the rear mounted stuff does not work nearly as well... easier for the laser to "punch through" so to speak.

I agree with most posts.. the V1 is fantastic for what it is...

Shifting/jamming effectively takes it to another level.

You feel so good when you are lasered, the jammer/shifter works its magic and the cop is staring at his read out and re lasering you and then gets the legal reading and forgets about you...

Mine is discreetly installed -- all controls mounted in the ashtray (led, power, and mute switch).... simply close the ash tray lid and it is all hidden... very James Bond...
