Default Hoosiers or Cups

I just bought a new set of Fikse's and now it's decision time whether I go with the Cup's I've used forever or try Hoosiers.

Opinions welcome......

Thanks

I've never run Hoosiers Rick and I would love to try to see what they feel like. What has made me shy away so far is people telling me you might gain one second at Lime Rock but you will for sure go through tires way more often. I had to make that call last fall and got the MPSC's again. Not sure if they are really street legal either, DOT rating not withstanding, for that run from the track to the town, or if you ever street the car back home at all. It was cost vs performance for me.

Have you considered RA-1's or R888's?

Hoosiers will be a second faster that the Cups. How did you do at Summit Point?

FWIW: I ran "on my 993" both tires, and Hoosiers are more predictable, smoother, faster 1-2 seconds, depending on track than the MPSC. I also rotated the Hoosiers on the rim for a few extra sessions. if your on a budget.

Have you ran all of the tires, on the same track/same temps and same day? If not how can you determine that? Just wondering.

Yes I have, at Mosport. in saying that I am no pro driver, no test data.. I just like how quickly the worked compared to the MPSC, the break away feel at the limit as compared to the Hoosier, it's a very, very sticky tire.

Kumho V710 has won several test done by Grassroot Motorsport Mag, tested as you said.
NJ-GT is also a fan of these tires, they just released the 305/18, tire size was the problem.

Read the feadback on these tires at the Tire Rack site.

Ok will do. Reason why I mentioned it is because in the Speedchallenge circuit and so on the ToyoR888's are preferred choice and good enough for racing they say, I liked them a lot and they heat up damn fast, even new at full tread they were great on my GT2 with traction! I would like to try them but 305 is too small

hoosiers are great but you will not be able to use them in rain. They also like a lot of neg.

Chassis Setup Recommendations
For optimum performance the Hoosier P-Metric radial tires require about 3 degrees of camber. There will be a trade off in maximum performance to maximize wear. Generally, 1/2 degrees less than optimum will result in the best compromise for wear and speed. Less than 2.5 degrees can result in excessive wear on the shoulder junction.

The Hoosier tires typically offer better performance with spring/shock rates higher than previous brands you may have run.

Tire Pressure Recommendations For Competition
Traditionally, Hoosier tires have often required higher pressures than other brands. This has changed with the A6/R6. https://www.hoosiertire.com/rrtire.htm

not to change the subject but since everyone here is talking tires..I have a question. I have the opportunity to purchase a set of MAK wheels with Pirelli PZero track tires. but they are 18" by 8-9 for $600 bucks. used one weekend. probably worth it, as a emergecy back up on the track? will they fit, or does anyone know what size spacer for the back will be needed?

I'm thinking of 245 fronts and 315 rears if I go with Hoosiers

I don't run in rain/one of the rules I live by as my rain line is back to the pits.

Other rules I live by:

Students will not scare the instructor
Students will not try to impress the instructor

Yes, I'm older than most of you guys so cut me some slack for being a wuss about rain.

That is OK. I would not track in the rain if I lived somewhere other than Seattle. BTW: I belong to AARP
