996 RS Wing from Porsche Motorsport

Rodney, it's been a few years since I mounted my wing, so I'm going from memory here on some of this.
1) You need a T-40 screwdriver that you can pick up at any auto parts store. You only need to loosen the screw to get the wing on/off. If you take the screws all the way out and they drop in the decklid, it's a huge pain in the *** to retrieve them.
2) The wing sits flush on the supports or the shims.
3)The shims are very easy to install. Just loosen the screw, lift up the wing a little, put in shims and lower wing into place on top of shims.
You already found out that the plugs covering the holes are easily destroyed and not easy to pop out without doing so. There's an old thread about this and the techniques people have used if you do a search.
Also, I spray painted my shims black before installing and they look much better than the orange/reddish color IMO.

Thanks for that description of the wing shim installation it came right on cue - that's my job for tonight - before I go to a track day at Rockingham (UK) tomorrow.

Happy to help out.
It's so simple & obvious, you really don't need instructions. (And don't forget to tighten the screws when done...I thought that was obvious also.)

OEM RS Wing Done!
Well,
First, thanks for everyone's help. I learned more about the RS Wing from Posts and emails from fellow Rennlisters like Dell and others then I was planning. Heard about everything from good to bad replicas and other stories of individuals thinking they were receiving the real thing and receiving something else.
The crazy swing in prices from Porsche from around $4K to $8K, and now finally back to reality which is under $4K.
The Wing is on the car. The plastic covers on the supports come off easy - pull them off my hand to remove. In my case I bet they will probably fall off in the future. T40 torex is the right size to take the screws off - thanks Holger B. By the way, the end plates use a T30 torex. The only real difficulty installing the wing was a button inside the support that the wing bracket rested on -- this had be to pressed/released in order for the wing to go in all the way.

The plugs covering the access holes are delicate as we pointed out years ago. The plug to hole tolerance varies, therefore on some cars the plug comes out very easily and others the plug cracks and/or breaks upon removal. Regardless one should protect the body in the vicinity as it is easy to have a tool slip while doing the plugs and loosening the retaining bolts.

Correct. I mentioned this was needed to be done to remove it. Forgot the button also needed to be depressed to insert it.

In the picture above are they 4 or 8 degree adjusters?

thanks a lot. The numbers are useless for me now because I received the parts and opened the parts and now I have only parts without ane charecteristic. I have thin and fat (big) ones. As I anderstand, Dell said, the fats were 8 degrees. Thin as a consequence 4 degrees.
