Default Anti-Sub Strap Mount

Folks,
How are you mounting your sub straps on stock GT3 seats and sliders? Seems that the Brey-Krause mounts require their own seat mounts on stock sliders. Ideas appreciated.

Thanks,

Curt

Don't think you can go with a sub-belt on stock seats. You need the cut-out on the seat portion to route it up. Otherwise, you still have all the space between the seat edge and the camlock to slide under.

As Joe states, you can't install these on stock seats. Are you talking about the power/comfort seats or are you talking about the fixed buckets seats?

If you are referring to the standard power seats, then why are you trying to install a sub bar under it?

Dell,
I have the stock seats. I also have 5 point belts, hence the need for a sub-strap mount.

Joe,
Thanks for the information. It's an interesting concern.

Sub straps are for antisubmarining under safety belt. If u plan not to put hole in seat and just have substrap touching front seat it ain't doing nething other then what mooty says. Frankly I wouldn't even tap holes on seat either-not meant for that(FIA approved-no way). There are types of 4 pt harnesses with can reduce antisubmarining like Schroth if u plan to keep stock seats. So do people who track cars with the stock three point belt have a death wish too?

When the times comes and hopefully it doesn't you'll find out. You already decided on getting harness's what's the point in that if u didn't even think 3 pt is enough? Mike

Also forgot to mention 4 point will not work for the stock seats as well. You'll need another one or 2 holes for the shoulder straps on your seat too. On a head on collision or close to the shoulder harness of ne 4/5/6 point will just slide to the side so in essence you just got only the lap belt(1 point seatbelt) saving your bacon plus the airbag. Mooty is trying to save your life...wtf...the stock seats will not allow any harness to do it's job...get the proper seats to go with the harness or stay off the track...if you have no more sense than that I don't want to be out there with you

You obviously don't understand how a 3pt belt works, or a 5/6pt belt works. While you can use a 3pt belt with seat made to accommodate a 5/6pt harness system, you CANNOT use 5/6pt belts on a seat designed for a 3pt belt. Your biggest problem is the anti-sub strap. There is NO WAY to route it properly for it work as it is designed. Routing it either over the front of the seat or through the back of the seat will actually work against you.

Stock seats? 3 pt only.
Race Seats? 5 or 6 pt harness system.

Further, running a race seat setup with 5/6 pt harnesses needs to be run in conjunction with a rollbar. Some run that setup with just a harness bar. However, that is very unsafe as well.

Sounds like it's time for you to read up on the various levels of safety in a track car, what they each do, and what combination needs to be observed for proper safety.

FYI.....When I ride with a student I will NOT get in the car if they have a setup like you are trying to do. I am sure most, if not all of my fellow instructors are the same.

The flames are unwarranted including the Mooty's igniting flame suggesting I had a death wish. I'm simply gathering information. There are some very bright, very experienced people on Rennlist and I appreciate their opinions. I have the brey-krause harness mount (R-1030 & 1031). The R-1030 and harnesses are a carry over from my 996 Turbo.

Dell, Mike,
Your points are particularly noteworthy regarding the cut outs for the harness straps. Used to be that some folks would deal with that problem using a sternum strap as is available with the Simpson products. I just read about Porsche club has instituting a new regulation prohibiting harnesses without the appropriate seats for the DEs.

A few of us big guys - I'm 6'6" and 300 lbs - are so long in the seat that the substrap mounts are akin to wearing a wrap around thong. The GT3 Euro seat (fixed back) simply isn't made for guys our size.

Anyway, appreciate all the opinions.

-Curt

Curt-

Check out Sparco EVO2Plus seats, might be what you need.

I've also got some Recaro Pole positions in leather for sale if you are interested.

Ross,
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll take a look at both options.

Curt, I realize that it is hard to gauge intent and emotion from a posting but trust me, nobody was flaming you. We take our SAFETY here very seirously when it comes to the track.

My suggestion would be to get smart on the different types of harnesses and seats avaiable to you. Further, the PROPER setup for safety.

There really is only 2:
1. Stock seats with 3pt belts
2. Race seats with harnesses AND a rollbar
