Default Cheap Wheels to trash?

I'm looking for a set of wheels to be used on a Mk.II. The wheels will be used for track only and their main purpose is to be able to cut curbs, take severe beating and eat gravel from the pits. Hence it should be a fairly cheap set.

So, BBS motorsports are not an option and neither is factory GT3 wheels.

I'm thinking of the a set of clones from http://www.design911.co.uk/
Alloy Wheels, style 455.

Anyone have experience with these or the company itself?

i dont know where you are located, i looked hard on my map, but i can't find "engine bay" LOL.
anyways, volks wheels on tirerack are about 2800/set
or you can buy complete custom wheels (CCW)
http://www.ccwheel.com/files/wheelprofiles.php
the the 'CLASSIC', they are made for track use. not so pretty, but hell strong and i think about 2k-2.2k a set call them, they dont respond to emails.

+1 on CCWs. Whether or not you actually trash the wheels, you want ones that are strong. Many clones look good, but will break/crack with track abuse. I've used the CCWs on my near-400 hp RX-7, and have them for my GT3 now. Best bang for the buck, IMO.

Another +1 for the CCW's. I just talked to them yesterday. A couple of my track friends use them and I am planning on buying a couple of sets for track use next week. It takes about two weeks for them to be made and delivered. I think you might need the C14's though to clear your brakes, plus they are a little stronger than the Classics, according to CCW. About 21 and 23 lbs front and rear for the C14's.

BTW, Tirerack has the Volk TE37's on sale right now. Usually they are $3130 but right now they are on sale for $2596.

You should look under your engine hood instead..

Durability is an issue on the track, so weak wheels are perhaps the worst option. Will look into the CCW and Volks as people recommended. I was hoping someone would have experience with the clones. Any input regarding design911 ?

Any more suggestions are deeply appreciated!

Maybe you should tell us what you budget is first, then we can work from there. For example, the OEM GT3 wheels are strong as an ox and great looking as well. You can pick up a set of used ones for $2-2.5K depending on who is selling. After that, you have CCW and Volk in the 2.5-3K range and then any further above that you are getting some serious bling (Forgeline, etc.)

As cheap as it gets without breaking and preferably no bling. Anything under 2.5K would be nice.

2.5K is a good number to work with. If you can get a set of OEM wheels then I see you spending about $2K for them. I haven't seen any for sale lately. I have an extra set that I have been debating parting with. Mine I had painted black so they blend in nicely on the track. Truth is, I haven't seen anything out there worth moving to that would force me to sell mine.

If you'd go below 2K, are there any options there? Or is it P.O.S all?

below 2k you have to look very hard and most likely used.
if you are lucky you can find oem wheels for 2k.

I have a set of 993 hollow turbo twist lying around. Would these work for your car?

Eddie, thanks for the thought. I have not looked to much into it, but I believe they don't fit too well. Should be an easy sell over at the 993TT forum though...

If you are looking for cheap trashable DE/track wheels get some used stock 996 wheels. Many upgrade to the "good" ones. It is very hard to beat factory Porsche quality in anything, wheels included. If you are racing for the national championships, get Volk CE28 or the new RE(?) 30.
