Default GT3 mod on a 986

I just added the GT3 RS brake ducts to my Boxster

See pics below;

The size difference (compaired to the stock Boxster pieces) is dramatic.

The pic shows (top to bottom)

- Stock 986
- GT3
- GT3 RS

Want even more cooling power? Get the Cup ducts. The RS ones don't have nearly the cooling capability of the Cups ducts.

See this thread......

Dell is correct - the cup ducts just WORK. They are vastly better than the standard set. My front rotors are already cracked, but since putting on the cup ducts the cracks have not extended at all... IMHO, they are worth the price of admission. With that said, I really like the size of your RS ducts. Since you already have them, I bet they will provide plenty of cooling on the 986... Let us know how they work out.

If that photo is accurate, my car came with the RS ducts.

Edit: My hunch is that the middle one is a 996 duct and the bottom one is a GT3 duct.

That is how they are advertising/selling them at Suncoast.

The middle duct is not the same as the duct on my 996. I ordered a set of GT3 RS ducts and a set of GT3 ducts from Suncoast and this is what they sent me.

Do they have it right?

Suncoast Code: 9963411179299634111892

Part #'s for USA GT3 from the Parts CD:
Left 996 341 117 91 (92)
Right 996 341 118 91 (92)

Edit: You can see there are two part #'s for each side, one ending in 91 & the other 92. I don't know what the difference is between the two, but as you know, they didn't sell the RS here and this is what they show for the US version. Just going by memory, I can tell you my car came from the factory with the ducts that Suncoast is calling RS.

Seems that they are selling the RS ducts. They wouldn't be selling the "better" Cup ducts as those are PMNA not PCNA parts and need to be procured through an authorized vendor like TRG, etc.

I believe that the OP's picture is mixed up. The bottom duct is in fact a 996 GT3 duct and the middle is the GT3RS duct. The 996 Cup Car ducts are massive in comparison to the 3 pictured.

BTW: I have a set of 997 Cup Car ducts on the way from Austin at TRG. Should have them by the end of the week. $30 for the set. Will post pics once they come in.

Hold on a sec....Paul, are saying you are installing 997 cup ducts on you 996? Hell, if they offer the cooling of the $250 996 Cup ducts for $220 less, then I am all game for that!

Yup, stay tuned. I did a bunch of research... unfortunately the last set in North America is on it's way to my house. PMNA is all out and more are coming from Germany. Also, Suncoast sold out of the 997 GT3 ducts as well which are about $30 as well and are the ones pictured in the middle.

The 997s are using a different shape that is hangs not as low as the 996 GT3 and cup but has more surface area from left to right.

+1...I read about the 997 ducts and found that idea interesting...I'd love to hear the report when you get them Paul.

The middle duct is smaller though and bears no resemblence to the GT3RS duct I took off my GT3RS and replaced with cup ducts that are definitely not in the photo as they don't have the cuts in the bottom to flex when they hit the deck.

i.e. I think the photo is correct.

So I have the 997 Cup Car Ducts in my hands and they are "Identical" to the middle ones in the picture however they only cost $18 each. Significantly smaller than the 996 Cup Car ducts, but I expected that considering the price was so much lower. So the take away... you can get the same thing pictured in the OP using the part #'s below and paying a fraction of the price.
