Looking for track wheels

I am very surprised no one mentioned the other CCW wheels: the CCW Classic 3-piece race wheels. They only mentioned the C14's. The C14's are stronger since they are all forged, while the Classics have a forged center with cast outer lips (like Forgelines, HREs, Fikses, iForged, etc.). The are cheaper than any of the wheels listed and custom made for any offset or width (varying by .25") up to 17" wide. They start at $2K a set.
The Classics come in 2 different versions: street and race. The street version has ARP chrome bolts and center caps. The race version has no provision for center caps, use industrial strength cadmium plated bolts and have additional drilling in the centers for 2 lbs less weight per wheel. The street wheels are $250 more a set less a set than the race wheels. When going through the same decision you are, I call Johned at CCW and he had a set of shotpeened and clear annodized centers (they look light gray) in stock. He built a set of custom 18x9.0"/18x11.0" wheels that day and shipped to my door in 4 days. With the optional finish and shipping they were still under $2300 for the set (a few hundred less than C14s). The fronts weight 18 lbs each and the rears are 20 lbs each.

WHOA!!! I ran these on my near-400 hp RX-7, and when I contacted John, he was not making these in anoffset for the GT3. That's why I have the C14s. I would have preferred these for the track, but not the street.

Huh? John has been making wheels to fit GT2 and Turbos for years, so there is no brake clearance problems. There are pictures on the CCW website of a GT2 with these wheels.
http://www.ccwheel.com/files/gallery...ssic/index.php
The only different between a GT2 fitment and a GT3 fitment is he uses a narrower outer rim half for the rear wheels. In fact, the wheels he made me were specifically the fitting for a GT3. Getting the right offset is not an issue. Some cars like 350Z with Brembos have problem with clearance from the caliper, but not Porsches. He was probably either out of a certain rim half size or centers. This can be an issue if your in a rush, but you will never go longer than 6 weeks before he runs a set of new centers or gets a shipment of lips.
For sizing you need to think in terms of backspace, rather than offset since he can vary the backspace by .25" incriments. There is about a 7" backspace in front (they actually measure 10" from outer side of lip to outer side of lip), which works out to around a 50mm offset when we measured them. The rears have about an 8 3/4" backspace (the rears actually measure 12" from outer side of lip to outer side of lip), which works out to around a 70mm offset.

I guess the chance to push a 2 for 1 temptation was too easy for Holger to pass up! I've managed to resist such suggestions from Holger and mooty for almost 2 years now...

I now have a set of C14s waiting for my body to heal to get those on the GT3 on the track.

Here is another pic for you. This one is not on the website. This is one John sent me all the way back in July 04'. He just started doing the shotpeening and annodizing so I could see the clear annozied finish. He sent me pics long before the new website was up and was making GT3 fittings back then. It sounds like he was either out of rim halves or he just wanted to move a set of C14s (he makes a lot more money on C14's than Classics).

At the time, I think February or March '05, he told me he was not making any wheels with GT3 offsets. He may have started thereafter because I never checked back with him until a month or so ago. That's when I bought the C14s (used, from another Rennlsiter).
Have no idea from where the confusion came?

Three Wheelin'
Volk TE37's with MPSC tires
I am seriously thinking about getting another set of wheels. Mainly for on the track, but it would be nice to have the extra set (stock wheels) with my PS2's for off season and/ or as a backup.
So, my question is will I notice a minor difference, big difference going from the stock wheels & MPSC to the Volk TE37 & MPSC. Will I need to change anything else to compensate for the new package. Will I notice any difference in my lap times? I suppose the Volks will be much lighter than the stock wheels, so less unsprung weight is a good thing.
Also, I liked the idea that I can order this package directly from Tirerack for under $3,900 shipped to my door and be good to go without having to visit my p-shop.

It depends if you are keeping the stock width or not. If you are keeping the stock, the advantage from the lower wheel weight will be marginal at best and certainly not comparable to improved driver skills. You will get a much better advantage if you can run a wider wheel and tire setup. This could be a great opportunity for a track upgrade if you are looking to convert to monoballs.
Unfortunately, Tirerack doesn't offer a wider wheel fitting for the Porsche. I don't think the TE37s are the best option at $2600 a set + tires. Used GT3 wheels seem to go for $1200-1500 a set these days. If you want to go lighter, the weights are exactly the same for the 18x8.5"/18x11.0" TE37s as my CCW 18x9.0"/18x11.0" classics, but the Volks are $500 more ($600 with the standard finish) a set than CCW classics. Spending just $200 more a set than the Volks gerts you a set of CCW C14s that are 1-2 lbs lighter each corner than the Volks.

can't beat BBS Racing wheels!!
...I just got these from a previous 996 GT3 owner (current 997 RS owner) and I love them!!!
Fronts are 10.0kg each, rears 10.2kg

Three Wheelin'
02 Carrera, Very good points especially with the marginal improvement. At the end of the day I want to improve by my driving skills, but a little mechanical help does not hurt. My car is slightly lowered and has the basic saftey equiptment (DAS roll cage, harnesses, seats), and MPSC & pagid 19's. I am fighting the urge to go a total track setup because I still like driving the car on the street. Also, I want to continue to do upgrades one at a time. Expanding the performance of the car expands the gap between my skills and the cars ability which increases the ability for me to screw up.
CCW C14s were my second choice, but it is so much easier to have the wheels/tires sent from tirerack plus I save $200 + mounting which will be around $150 + dropping / picking up car. Seems like people on Rennlist are split between the Volks & CCW's, but both are good at a reasonable price.
I would be open for a good set of used track wheels which will be the best value.

I did buy and am using the Volks with MPSC from Tire Rack. I found the CCW look to be a bit unfinished which they unabashedly recognize if not promote. To each their own. Positives with the Volks are the finish, low weight compared to OEM and many aftermarket and the biggest bonus I am also seeing is they are so easy to clean. Track wheels get a healthy dose of brake dust and I leave them on if I'm not planning any road trips once home. I love the ease of cleaning them. I also have found the GT3- perhaps more so with Pagids or any better pad create wheel heat that is significant. I have to believe a more open wheel like the Volks helps dissiapte this. I'm talking about wheel heat hot enough to melt the wheel weights adhesive and sling weights. Volks and aluminum tape on the weights for me.
