Hey guys, was there ever a follow-up to this and the impressions of the 997 shifter into the 996?

Thanks in advance

Hey lads... I fitted the 997 GT3 short shift to my Mk1 GT3.. Bolts straight in and transforms the shift. Exactly like my mates 997 GT3! Although I fitted the cup gear cables with metal ends instead of plactic. Top Job

So, are you guys fitting the stock 997GT3 shifter into the 996, or is it a short-shifter for the 997GT3 that is being fitted into the 996?

And is the stock 997GT3 shifter, a shorter throw than the 996 short shifter, or just more smooth?

Any chance you could let us know the part numbers (inc the cup gear cables) as this sounds like a really interesting improvement.
thanks

Michael

Hey Michael,

I bought the short shift from Gert in Carnewal, the gear cables came from Parr Motorsport. They are the agent for all Porsche Motorsport parts in UK. A mate of mine got the cables from them, I am sure if you ring them they will supply them to you. If you have any probs let me know and I'll try to get the part number for the cables.

Cheers,

Dave

after seeing a few too many failures in the shifter/cable assembly on the track with race and DE clients, we started installing the 993 supercup parts from PMNA. We have never had a problem in all of the Supercup car we care for so it was the obvious choice. The upgrade is not inexpensive, but it is the best way to go as far as I and many of our clients are concerned. Good luck, Jerry

Chuck, I am sorry for the confusion, I meant 996 supercup parts...The 993 supercup uses a shift selector shaft, the 996 supercup uses the cables. The system does not use any plastic and the cables are secured to the gearbox with a much better system than the clips used on all of the street car....again, I am sorry for the mix up...Jerry

I'm putting in a 997 GT3 shifter kit today, and going to the Glen for DE on Wednesday and Thursday. I'll let you all know how it works.

The 997 GT-3 shifter is a direct replacemant for the 996 GT3 unit, with minimum time involved on the labor.
Parts total was $183.000
We just did the install on a 2004 GT3 and we are waiting for Qwick Rick's evaluation.
