Default Nitto NT01....pics and specs before my road test

So, I have just got the Nitto NT01 installed on my track wheels. Here are some pics and the specs before my first event in 31 days, 16 hours

Wheels are OEM GT3 wheels painted black with clearcoat on the face and just black primer inside the barrel.

Front:
245/40/18
The weight of the front wheels with the tire installed is exactly 55#
Inflated Diameter is 25.5"
Width is 9.7"

Rear:
315/30/18
The weight of the rear wheels with the tire installed is exactly 57.5#
Inflated Diameter is 25.35"
Width is 12.6"

My first event is at CMP (Carolina Motorsports Park) and then 2 weeks after that at VIR.

Dell,

looking forward to hear about how they perform, especially compared to MPSC's if u've used them before.

Those wheels are badass.

From what I hear from others, these tires should be better than the cups in that they do NOT require a lap or 2 to get up to temp and they don't drop off (get greasy) after about 6-7 hot laps. If they perform as advertised then I might have found a winner. Also, heard that you can run this till you cord them unlike the cups that after 15-20 heat cycles start to get harder and harder thus making it harder to get them up to temp. But up till now, it's just anectodal for me since I haven't actually seen first hard. I'll post back when the test is done!

Those freaking tires are heavy. The tread looks better than the RA1 (closer to slicks), so if the same compound and construction is being used, these tires should be faster.

They don't look like they need to be shaved either.

As a reference, my CCW wheels with GoodYear G19 slicks:

Front:
Size: 25.0x10.0x18 on CCW Corsair 1-piece forged wheels 10"x18"
Weight: 43 lbs
Diameter: 25.0"
Width: 11.2"

Rear:
Size: 25.5x12.5x18 on CCW Corsair 1-piece forged wheels 12"x18"
Weight: 47 lbs
Diameter: 25.0"
Width: 14.2"

8 lbs more as a set when running Hoosiers A6 285/335. 42 lbs less with PCCB.

Dell, you're running too much unsprung weight...

Good ref point Rad.

I guess those OEM wheels are quite heavy? No to mention I have some unsprung weight to remove from the holidays

Does this setup fit the car and drive on the street without rubbing ?

I have NOT mounted them on the car but from all the data collected BEFORE the purchase they should fit just fine. All the numbers were posted in another thread comparing these tires to the factory size PS2's as well as MPSC, and one other tire (don't remember which one).

All indications say they are going to be perfect a fit. I will not mount them for a quick drive around just yet since I am in a new development and I have already replaced 6 f'in tires in the last 4 months since

I have driven to the track on them. Rubbing in the front on the stock rim with deep compression with 2.6 deg camber. Only one side though! I bent back the part of the fender that was rubbing and it was fine.

Today I'm mounting them on my BBS race rims and we'll see as the front is 9 in vs. 8.5. Possibly my ride height is too low.

Very easy to get heat in them!!! Remind me exactly of the ra-1s but stiffer side walls. Probably good for autoX too

If anyone (Rad) can advise on pressures please help. I'm getting roll over even at 42 rear hot. I need a pyro, but it looks like more then 2.4 camber is necessary.

I have 0 toe in the front and wioth these tires it was not as darty as the Ps2s.

Oh, this may have to do with my set up but a 2 lb difference in pressures F/r has the car rotating beautifully.

Can't wait for Big willow this weekend!

Over 3 degrees front works..and 2.4-2.8 rear...I use f3.5 & r2.4..going to 2.6 it worked better.

Vic,

Did you get ANY type of rubbing on the rears with those big 315's, even under heavy compression?

They're calling for warmer temps this weekend, possibly into the high 70's. Even with the long straights at Willow Springs, I don't think tire temps will be a problem. How was the tire wear after a weekend at Streets?

Given what you've stated that they feel like the RA-1's, I'm most interested to hear what the wear is like over the long haul and the level of grip they offer after they've worn down to near slicks.

BTW, how did your alignment feel on the track?

Alignment perfect after the toe links! Rock Solid.

You know the extra 10 mm of rubber per side up front really stabilized the car with 0 toe

No Rubbing at all from the 315s.

Looks like I need more camber in the rear from what it seems.

Thanks all.

I can't beleive you ran those at 42 hot! That doesn't sound anywhere close to optimal pressure. My guess would be in the low to mid 30's. gt3-4me runs 32/30 so my question would be to you va122, what temps did you actually run at and did you check tire temps as well as how far out to the edge of the tire you got?

Dell,
These tires are the same rubber comound and makeup from what I can tell to the Toyo RA-1's just differing in tread design. From my past experience with RA-1's (although on a different car) they like warm pressures much higher than PSC's do...my preference with the RA-1's was always around 38-40 hot.

Another note is that RA-1's don't like as much camber as say a Hoosier...Again I realize the Nitto's are slightly different but they should have similar behaviors to the RA-1's.

I am thinking I might experiement with the 36/38 range and go from there. I can't imagine anything over 40 would be good.
