My car was pulling badly on acceleration. Turned out I had a couple bad rear tires. Only had 5k miles on the car at the time. New tires fixed the problem.

Thanks for all the congrats and suggestions. 350 miles in the past four days. Managed to scrape the chin spoiler off already. I like the spoiler's sacrificial design. No damage to the nose, and it was easy to put the spoiler back with those little barrel fasteners. Still working on the few bugs. See my other thread about toe.

The wheels look awful with brake dust after only 350 miles. Is that typical of the OEM pads? Wondering if that might be an indication that the pads are not OEM.

I'd like to get the factory manuals. Should I order them from the dealer, or is there a other better alternative? Do I just get the GT3 manual, or do I also need the 996 and/or other manuals? Is there a good online guide for aligning a GT3?

when you put lip back, in addition to the plastic rivets you NEED strong double sided tape, else the lip will fly away at speed exceeding 100mph. my was off 2x at TH front straight. right in front of jim bassette and m. cheng, scared the s*** out of them.

Another nubbie question. Where is the best place to jack the car from the side and place jack stands? I saw there are two jack points specified in the manual, but you really need three, one for the jack, and two for the stands. Is it safe to jack the car from under the engine as with the torsion bar vintage, and if so where under the engine?

either one on a side will get both wheels off the ground. If you use the the front you will get both front wheels and the rear up.
regarding the splitter: if you can see light between the splitter and bumper it will come off at speed >100mph

put jack on on the rear jack pt of either side, jack it up.
put jack stand under the front jack point (the side you just jack'd up obviously)
lower jack.
repeat above on the other side.
now the nose is in the air.
you need a long low profile jack (otherwise, you need to put 2x6's under rear tire).
stick the jack dead center of the car from the rear bumper forward. you should see a ridge where the left and right bank of the motor comes together, jack the car up from there. then put stands on the two rear jack points right before the rear wheel wells.

btw, you should use a block of wood or hocky puck to do the jacking.

350 miles? Yes, that tells me that they may not be OEM. They should look that way after 35 miles.

I would also like to know about finding shop manuals for 05 gt3. I was told that you need the 996 manuals and that they (it) will contain a section on gt3 for things that vary from standard 996. I don't know that to be fact from personal experience.
