Talking Motorcycle on four wheels

Holy cow that's a fun drive! I sold my GPZ550 16 years ago because it didn't seem to want to go slower than 90mph. My GT3 seems to have the same fault, but with two more wheels.

Got it Wednesday, a 2004 with 6.4Kmi. Black/black with carbon fiber interior trim (I'd post a picture, but I don't have the privileges yet.) Still working the bugs out. It seems to have some kind of throttle steering sensitivity where it goes left when I step on the throttle on the freeway at 50mph, and right when I let off. I'm thinking it's a problem with the alignment or corner balance. What are the stock alignment specs?

Also, judging from the sound the brakes make, I'm thinking the pads may be competition, not OEM. Are OEM pads painted yellow? The ones in the car are yellow. Where to get pads in SF on a Saturday...

I knew the ride would be bumpy, but I didn't think it would that bumpy. I like the seats. The power steering is awfully light compared to the manual steering that I'm used to on 911's. I suppose you eventually get used to it, and are able to feel the road . I love the sound when the engine winds up over 6K. Do you really use all those gears? I'm all smiles.

Yes, PDC. Photo was taken on Twin Peaks in SF. The pads make a grinding sound when I come to a stop. The sound is exactly like race pads when cold. Is that typical of OEM pads? They also squeak. How can you tell the difference between OEM and and competition Pagids?

Directional changes on/off power can be alignment or worn tires. The GT3 is very responsive to both. If one rear tire is slightly more worn than the other the car will behave as you described.

Best,

Welcome aboard!

As for your pulling issue under accel I had the EXACT same thing. I got a nail in one rear tire and had it replaced immediatly. However when the alignment was done I got this horrible hard pull under WOT accel. Turns out that the couple mm difference between the 2 rear tires was the problem. Ordered another rear tire and the problem went away.

BTW, the car LOVES to stay in that 6-8K RPM range .......on the track of course

Congratulations!

It looks like you and I are sharing the same experience (less the motorcycle). I just picked an '04 with 5.5K miles and I concur on the emotional sensations! However, I don't think it is bumpy to me.

Welcome! I know you will enjoy this car!

I think of all the "bumpiness" as just a reminder of what a fine machine you are piloting!

Congratulations on the car.

I've got OEM pads and they are well behaved. No grind or squeak. There is a sponsor that I can't recall the name of that seems to know about everything about there is to know about P car brakes. He should be easy to find and he's a pleasure to work with. He sells the RS's but you can only get the "street/oem" compound from the dealer. I just paid $322 for a set of fronts.

The good news is that the street pads if used on the street have a half life of uranium. My car has 20k with limited track time and the pads are about as new.

Congrats on your ride!

Get the 'pull' issue worked out before you start feeding it tracks.

Keep the revs up and party on, my man.

Cheers

Juan,

Congrats! I'm lov'n my recently acquired 04 as well. This thing is just a beast compared to my 996 ..amazing. My brakes (OEM, and yes they are yellow colored as confirmed above) squeal a bit here and there, but nothing dramatic. Not experiencing any pull on throttle on/off in a straight line. Very stable but generally busy ride. However, throttle input sensitivity seems to be another story in the corners, well, actually any abrupt input (i.e. to be avoided) from my limited experience on the street. I'm sure the first track event in this thing will be an interesting experience

Juan, welcome to the world of the "3"....agree with the comments on rear tires....check those first...do a search on GT3 alignment and you will come up with stock and more agressive alignments...enjoy....
