[QUOTE=Z06]What kind of money are we looking at if the block is cracked?
If you have a wrecked 996 Cup would you be able to get the 997 Cup tub?
/QUOTE]

WIth 32k miles you'd want to go through the entire motor is you have to split the cases. You're probably into $20-35 at that point....

Interesting question about the 997 tub for a 996 VIN. I don't know, I'll have to ask on Monday....

To change from a 996 tub to a 997 tub wouldn't you also have to change the uprights and everything connected to the wheels as well?

Default Not worth it to rework this one...

Here are some thoughts... they boil down to this car not being worth it... 30k, first of all is wayyyyyyy tooo much... Salvage Title too. In terms of frame damage, both front rails are shifted, the "trunk" floor is totally bent up.. The rear shock tower is shifted over about 2". All inner wheel liner metal is toast. The left quarter panel is most certainly buckled as well. The rear section (third brake light) is also bent. The right side door inner sheet metal has also suffered major bendage even thought the exterior door appears ok..As far as suspension goes... besides the right side parts, all 6 side section studs are bent. As far as drivetrain... right axle is done, the transmission case is cracked from the axle slamming into it.. the main shaft is bent also (the trans is repairable however you cant buy a gt3 trans case. A turbo case will work with addiional machining). The aluminum water cooling housing is most certianly damaged and could have very well taken out some of the mounting locations on the engine. Good news though is that the engine is probably good, the water housing in front and trans in rear would have acted as absobers.

For $15k, this car would be worth it. All is possible to fix with a complete tear down and about $40k in parts (thats using as many used parts possible and a 15% discount on dealer parts and using steel rotors instead of pccb)

Now how do I know all this... Lets just say a bit of 996 knowledge...

Yes, but You must have a wrecked Cup to order one, then You must cut the wrecked cup into pieces and prove it, then you cut out the VIn and PMS will weld it into the new tub. Other option is to order a body on white(none are available currently)

That was a great fun read. Very well-sorted and highly dedicated racing team to make the new car work and WIN 1st time out, very adroit usage of the "network" to get the car to begin with.

Yes I am sure he would sell the motor and gearbox. I will post You up if those become available, he is considering rebuilding the car right now but should get his bearings very soon after he gets the pricing on bringing it back to life.
