And it doesn't hurt the track budget to be a DINK.
Know any nice looking single (female) docs?

My second set of PS2s this year are almost done. Now that PSCups are available in 19" at a shocking price I think they will be my next move, along with seats, rollbar, harnesses . . . . .

Is there any problem with the tequipement rollbar from the 996 fitting in a 997?

Chris, you would have to move

What exactly is your definition of "shocking" price on the 19" MPSC???

You can't export one for me?

The 19" cups are 6% more for fronts ($308 USD @ Tire Rack) and 54% more for the rears ($514 USD @ Tire Rack) than 18s.

How's VIR? The boys and I are planning to visit a new track every year. Lime Rock, VIR, Road America etc. are on our list . . . A new track just opened 45 from my house recently www.calabogiemotorsports.com and it's great.

1600/set is what i found as well.
at the rate i go through them, this is way too much money for my poor doc wife to support.
this is scary $$$ on rubbers

chris, before you get tequipment bar, check carnewal.com ask gert if he can get rear 1/2 roll cage from GT3 or GT3RS 997 versions. those are beefier and more "manly" then tequipment.

The export tax would be prohibitive

VIR? In one word. Amazing. Let me know when you head down I will defintely make it that weekend.

Then you need to do as I have. Get the wifey hooked on tracking as well and then you do NOT have to explain the costs!

I'll chime in here with the others about a second set of rims and a roof rack. It has several advantages with the obvious of keeping your track tires fresh and longer. What you also have to consider that with the MPSC's on as your only tires you are really excluding yourself from driving in the rain. On damp surface they are ok but in normal/heavy rain they are downright scary. So if you drive so many miles away you might encounter rain going to or coming from the event... Not a nice thing on MPSC's! So by having normal street tires on the car they can double as rain tires for a DE event which is a bonus. I have heard good things from friends about the new Yoko Neova's which looks to be an aggressive street tire to replace your PS2

The Toyo R888 is the tyre flavour of the season for GT3ers here in the UK. Two main characteristics:
1) very soft compound
2) exceptionally stiff sidewalls (stiffer than MPSCs)

The sidewall stiffness has actually caused some concern given the camber many run on their track geos with Corsas/MPSCs. The R888s have such stiff sidewalls, that many are increasingly finding that the car can run less camber to save the tyres.

The other factor is in the increased tyre pressures required compared to MPSCs/Corsas. At first the Toyos seemed to like hot pressures as low as 31psi (possibly masked by the stiff sidewall), but subsequent testing has revealed that they actually work better between 35(f)-38(r) to get even temps across the tyre.

Performance wise, I reckon they offer about 97% performance of the MPSC. Toyo have been very aggressive with their pricing policy, and they are about 60% the price of a set of MPSCs. Although they do not last quite as long as MPSCs, at that price they are nearly unbeatable.

I see the R888s come in OEM GT3 sizes, which the RA-1s do not. That is a big plus.

How are the R888s on the street and in the wet? As good as the RA-1s?

Any word on these tires coming to the US?

Update: my nearby Toyo distributor says that the R888s will be introduced to the US in two weeks and as the RA-1 stock is used up they will become available. He is checking to see if the US will get the 235/40-18 and 295/30-18 sizes.

R888s on the street are excellent. The stiffness of the sidewalls makes them feel like you're running slicks and they go someway to protecting your rims on bumps/dips/potholes.

In the wet, I'd rate them as slightly worse than Corsas, but heck of a lot better than MPSCs. R888s work in the wet, but you just need to feel your way around because the extremely stiff sidewalls tend to mask the breaking point of the tyre slightly.

I've never tried RA-1s as they are not available in the UK, so sadly I can't offer a comparison.

The further word from my distributor is that the R888 will be announced in two weeks but not released in the US until mid-2007. No confirmation that we'll get the same size tires as you get in the UK.

How much to ship a set? :-)

No idea! But a full set of 235/295s are about £600 (approx $1100)

The RA-1's last a lot longer than the MPSC. If the R888 is to be priced at 60% of the MPSC but last less then it may be a good thing depending on how long is less. Totally different tread design than the RA-1's. Thanks for the info zoomzoom.
