Default Track Video, F430 at Sebring with a GT3

I posted this over at Ferrarichat, but I figured I would put it up here since I have a few laps of everyones favorite track car.

The Ferrari is a F430 Spider. The GT3 is driven by a friend of mine. He had Pilot Sport PS2' and I had Pilot Cups so a direct comparison is not possible, but its still good quality video and I think this is the one where we blow by the Vipers which is always a good thing. I was even running a rear view camera.

One thing I have to say about the Porsche. You really just drive them there, run them around the track, and drive them home. My Ferrari is pretty bulletproof, but the Porsche seems so reliable. Anyway, here's the video:

Great footage, thanks for sharing! Do you feel that the GT3's power is a bit under-rated? both cars seem to pull very well on the straights.

...wish I had my earphones with me today....

One thing is for sure - that 430 is very strong and has great legs. How is top end between the two on the straights - I do not think tire would be as critical up to a certain point of no return (braking).

Big sweepers! Oh my!

The GT3 performs alot like I would expect it to. I can only overcome its advantage in corners and braking with a better line. The Ferrari pulls on it more the last half the straight. Early on the straight it is pretty close. I can only get an advantage with a better exit.

About the underrating, I would say it's more the difference in weight. I was running at around 3800LBS (my car is a spider and I had a passenger). The GT3 was probably closer to 3300LBS (passenger as well, but both were lighter)

What level is this video from? I would expect better than 2:40s from a GT3 or F430.

I didn't remember there being a clean lap in this video? Again though, both cars running passengers, the GT3 running PS2 tires that were far from fresh. That particular GT3 (with that driver) runs upper-mid 2:30's on a clean lap. I'm sure there are plenty of people that could run better. There are even more people that could not. After this session I gave the GT3 driver a couple pointers and he ran faster in the afternoon as well.

The 430 is a Spider. As I said, we were running right at 3800LBS. I run 2:30 flat when not in traffic. I could run about 3 sec faster if I drove the car in harder, but I have steel brakes and with all the weight they heat up a lap in and the pedal gets low. I already run Pagid Blue pads. I am going to try fresh Castrol SRF fluid next time out and see if that improves things. The GT3 will be running some decent tires next time.

P.S. we were in the fast group, but this was during an open session with everyone allowed out.

I think that video is a great example of how people SHOULD drive at open track days. It looked to me like EVERYONE was watching the mirrors and working with each other. How frigg'n refreshing. I would luv to run with that group. Well done.

Great video. It looked like you weren't pushing it too hard and running for time, but more for fun. The silver Vette did pretty well, but you could tell he was pushing it once you got behind him. The back end was fishtailing all over the place and his line wasn't quite there. Thanks for sharing! Good video quality as well.

I wouldn't have expected the Ferrari to experience much fade, even with a passenger, with those pads. Surprising. Either way, thanks for posting, nice quality video! There aren't too many high quality videos of Sebring, which is for all intents and purposes the premiere track in the Southeast (and one of the top in the country).

Oh and a little safety tip for your friend in the GT3 - probably don't want to be braking in the middle of Bishop bend

I'm not sure there were clean laps, but even so, i would have expected sub 2:30s out of both of those cars. It's a but hard to tell with the sound, but were you lifting down some straights and even in some of the faster sections? Looked to me like the 430 would have been significantly faster than the GT3 had you keep your foot in it. It definitely pulls the GT3 down the back straight.

There was certainly more partial throttle going on than full throttle. But I think he was lifting off to stay with his GT3 buddy. These were obviously not intended to be fast laps (I hope )

Maybe he was just in a cruising mood... it is a Spyder
