Default 997 GT3 PCCBs - Are they worth it?

OK, I know the question has been asked a zillion times, but I've only got 2 days left to make changes to my Oct build. Not asking the benefits of Ceramics, more first hand track experience. I don't mind spending the $8800 up front, but more concerned with the replacement cost. I'm going to use the GT3 as a daily driver plus about 30-40 track days a year (3,500 track miles and 6,000 street miles a year).

When do these things actually wear out??? Obviously probably only have to worry about replacing the fronts, but at $5,500 a corner..ouch! Plus not to mention any little "excursion" into a gravel pit may score or chip the rotor.

Currently I have opted not getting them. Dealer says its a must for resale (not that I'm selling anytime soon), but I have mixed feeling about that. Sure most people may want them. But selling a car with 20k miles with PCCBs, the buyer may say the brakes pretty worn and rotors need replacement (at a cost of 20k+), so might it actually be a negative???

Any advice needed...the clocks ticking!!

I would say that with that many track days there's a good chance you'll be replacing them at a high cost (especially if you go off-course and into a gravel trap which can ruin a rotor quickly).

As for resale, I expect (and hope) that PCCB rotor cost will come down in the future, so that any buyer (or even you) could retrofit PCCB when they become more affordable.

I think opting not to buy PCCB is wise if you track alot and are budget conscious...

I vote No on PCCB's.

Or of you dont mind spending the money like you said, then yes, get them and as soon as the car comes in, throw steel on. Box up the PCCB's and then you always have them if you want them.

I would not track PCCB's.

Have you ever driven a 997 with Gen2 PCCB?

I have and they are phenomenal. Your last brake application is the same as the first.
The initial bite is so good, you have to modify how hard you get into them.

The 997S cars at PDE have logged 8,000 track miles with no problems and only pad replacement.
Barber Motorsports Park where PDE is located is really hard on brakes.

Gen1 problems gave PCCB a really bad rap
Gen2 from '05 on seem to have solved the issues
The Fact Book Edition 04/2006 MY 2007: 911 Turbo · 911 GT3 refers to them now as "Enhanced Porsche Ceramic Ceramic Composite Brake".

No doubt about it, they are pricey but they work so well.

Caution to the wind, I have spec'd them on my order.

Yes - I have tried Gen 2 PCCBs. They are wonderful. But have you tried the stock 997 GT3 brakes? There is hardly any difference IMO. You certainly won't feel any difference in car dynamics. I tried a press car in Switzerland with stock brakes and I have tried Gen 2 PCCBS on a 4S.

Don't get me wrong. I am happy you are geeting them because they are very nice! But they are BY NO MEANS a necessity. No matter what a money hungry P-dealer will tell you.

Thanks for all advice. Think I'll stick with "the reds". In 2 years I'll probably wish i got "the yellows", but be 30k richer (8k cost, 22k replacement rotors)

.
The PCCB on the 4S have 13.78 in diameter at all four wheels

The PCCB on the GT3 has 14.97 in dia rotors in the front and 13.78 in diameter at the rear.

That would be my choice too given the number of track days you'll be doing.

Your salesman is full of crap. Ask him what the resale would be like without a sunroof. That should shut him up.

OMG that was soo funny. I spit up by drink thru my nose.

You are on fire latly

911 GT3 refers to them now as "Enhanced Porsche Ceramic Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake".
Humm, so does that make them EPCPCCB's??

Sounds like a Soviet Acronym

Mjones, you are a stud. I Love the endless flow of knowledge.

I will be getting the "EPCPCCB"-LMNOP's on my On-Order GT3, the pedal feel is second to none. And hopefully the prices will continue to come down by the time replacements are needed.

My "get the best you can afford" mentality drives this decision more than anything.

Either way a special car will be had.

Does the 997 GT3 use the same brakes as the 996 GT3 or did they change, as on the 997 GT3 cup?

I've ordered them on my Oct build. But then, I also did all leather.
