Default Cut open the cat ! Pics included

I have been experiencing a continuous loss of power over the past couple of months and assumed it was related to my cats and mufflers.

This is a view with the camera lens pressed up against the intake side and a light on the exhaust side.

I do not get it. How is the big blob of metel held in pllace? What is different about it now then when new? Other then it is now on the floor.

So, are you going with the "gutted cat" mod for now? If so, will your OBD freak out as a result?

I am told that " that blob of metal " used to be a uniform honeycomb which filled the entire cat. Now it has become a plug from being pressured against the back wall by the exhaust. Porsche said they will not warranty it because of " excessive track use".
I took the plug out and welded it back together so, yes I am going cat-less. Porsche wanted $1800cdn/ cat and I don't know how much for the mufflers ( which are full of garbage from the cats)

Isn't that covered by the emissions warranty...?

Claims for repair or adjustment necessary solely because of defects in material or workmanship will not be denied because the car or engine was not properly maintained or used
You could've put your faulty exhaust on a friend's GT3 that hadn't been tracked and have him make the warranty claim...

Got one check CEL last fall at which time they said it was the cats and probably the mufflers as well. They said they would replace both under warranty but, only once. I didn't feel it was necessary and asked them not to replace them. No CEL s since. Just the loss of power.

That probably would've worked before the can openner and welding took place. And, does such a person actually exist. I don't know of one.

This is amazing! I thought these cars and especially the GT3 were made to be used on the track. Just what is defined as "excessive track use" and is it a ligitimate warranty violation,

Looks like it is time to buy Euro pipes set up. They use race cats.

FYI, from what I have heard, the cars run better WITH cats.

this is one of the many reasons Porsche is not as interested in making a street car for track use. They spend a lot of time and effort dealing with warrenty issues on tracked cars. PCCB,engine bits, cats not to mention the ******* lawyers on the unsafe car topic.
We cause them more problems then our business is worth.
I found that my dealer is my best friend. They are the people makinng the case to the Porsche rep. He is paid to say NO. The dealer is paid when they keep you as a customer. I have made a point to bring service business to them, sharing it with the indy. I have had PCCB, and a couple of other items covered because the dealer went to the mat for me(their customer). BARRIER will keep my business
