Default Headers

Are there any benefits from putting headers on a 3.6 GT3 (2005) A poster on another board stated he had his doubts if headers would offer any improvement. I just put the Fabspeed mufflers on and I like them.

Opinions please

Headers are supposed to improve the exhaust flow, however if not done correctly I don't know that they would help and have heard that certain exhausts can actually reduce the numbers!

Fabspeed headers sure look great. I do not know if they do anything.

MJ Speed,
I have heard the same thing, but I think it was a different brand than Fabspeed.

Roberga,
I thought the same thing and my tech guys say they are pretty good. If I can get a little better throttle response at lower RPM I'll be happy. I'm not trying to set any records, just an improvement here and there as my budget will allow.

Thanks guys!!

We've done a good few different headers and one thing to be careful of (especially due to the ride height) is that they will hang pretty low. So you'll need to be careful coming out of driveways and over speed bumps etc... I've seen many a set sadly clipped and ruined

<----Just a cool note first, this is post 959!!

Larry,

By no means was my answer Fabspeed specific just answering your question about headers in general.

BTW I agree with NJ-GT if what you're looking for is better throttle movement then go with the LWF. Hope this helps.

I have heard there are advantages and disadvantages to installing a light weight flywheel. Can anyone give me a thumbnail synopsis of their experience with the LWF. Re-gearing is a strong possibility too. I'm going to talk with my Porsche techs today and get their opinions.

The LWF just allows the revs to climb and drop significantly quicker. I love 'em on any car, whether it be the GT2, a TT, GT3 or 996... It almost feels like more power in a way. Disadvantages are that on certain cars like the TT's the release point is higher up (on the severly hydraulically assisted clutches), you get some chatter transmission noise/rattle once warmed up...

Larry-

On all of my older turbos, they made a tremendous difference in reducing turbo lag. On my normally aspirated cars (an 'N' of 2), they seemed to make little differences - however these cars were a 964 and a 993.

Larry, I'd have to agree with NGT and others about the LWF. I don't think adding headers to your setup is going to get you that low end response that you seek. Depending on the setup, you may even lose some low end oomph with the decreased back pressure.

Alex, I was just flipping through Total 911 and caught the article about you and Todd... nice.

I would think from a purely response standpoint, a change to the rear end ratio would yield more "real" gains that a lwfw. Who needs to go 190 mph, I'd rather get to 160 more quickly and have more push out of turns etc. It makes the car feel like you have added a bunch more torque to the mix. I made this change in a previous Corvette and it transformed the car. This is one great mod.

I asked Mike at AWE tuning about changing my headers, he said that the headers on the GT3 were already very good, they didnt get much of a gain by changing them. My vote goes to LWF and gearing changes.

Yep re-gearing is tops...this coupled with the LWF then it would really be a difference that you could really appreciate.
